This was posted on every foreign car outside my building this morning.

There's no such thing as an American car anymore. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves. Assembled maybe, but a good percentage of the parts are foreign made.

Serously, are people *still* not aware of how many Americans foreign companies employ?

But the money/profit leaves the country. That's not a good thing.

If buying a Toyota is unamerican, you might want to stop buying gas, food, clothes, computers, televisions, pet food, shoes, jewelry, accessories, handbags, music equipment, cell phones, carpeting, furniture, office equipment, paper, wood, garden plants, plastic containers, toilet paper, books, DVDs, CDs, wires, connectors, clothes hangers, trash cans, toys and "Support our Troops" car magnets.

Hypocrites. All of you.

How many domestic companies are paying foreign suppliers (more money overseas)? What about the domestic auto manufacturers are employing workers in Canada and Mexico? It's all over the place, no one can say buying American is the only way to keep money here. Yes, profits head overseas, but what percentage of profits goes to them vs. what gets paid to local steel suppliers, taxes, workers, etc.

And yes, it's not a good thing when the money going into Toyora's/Honda's/etc pockets vs staying here, but that's capitalism. Hell, we're the worlds biggest pusher of capitalism. So how can we complain when we fully embrace it?

To me it has more to do with the fact I don't agree paying someone $60k+ and many at $90k+ to sit on an assembly line even if they are americans.

By buying a foreign make I have saved lots of money on vehicle repairs. These savings were directly injected into the economy in industries not including the auto industry.

Hell, I also like supporting stuff made here in Ohio.

Tonight you should go issue a reply to everyone with an American car:

"If Americans didn't build such shitty cars maybe I'd buy one"

If that were still true, you'd have a point. But it's not, and hasn't been for years now. But the perception is, foreign cars are better-made.

Funny how the busiest service departments are the foreign dealers. Especially Honda and Toyota.

The two Honda dealers in this immediate area both run their shops until midnight. Full of broken-down Hondas. I've been to one twice to repair water leaks in Hondas this week.
Toyota shops are full, Mazda shops are full. Nissan has lots of cars to work on.

Domestic shops are dead. All the ones around here (and there are a few HUGE dealers) have trimmed their personnel down to less than half of what it was, and they STILL don't have enough work to keep busy more than half a day. The cars simply are not breaking down much anymore.

Fact of the matter is, if you buy a new Ford or Chevy right now, you can expect it to last just as long as any foreign brand, with proper maintenance.

The other sad fact is, people tend to neglect proper maintenance on domestic cars The ones that don't are getting long life out of their vehicles.

My 2 foreign cars are made in Lafayette, IN and Spartanburg, SC.

And all the money goes overseas. They employ a few Americans, that's it.

And buy American parts (as much as any other car company). And pay American taxes.

Or are you talking about who owns Toyota, Honda, or Nissan?

Yes, some of the money goes to Japan. Some goes to Mexico, some goes to Canada, and more goes who knows where. So tell me, which keeps more money in America? My Toyota Sequoia or the made-in-Mexico Chevy Suburban?

The "American Car" is no longer a reality.

There are more car models made in the USA than you seem to realize.
And many parts suppliers are located here too, machining all the equipment for the American-owned companies. Where the car is actually made at, is simply a matter of who is actually putting all the pieces together.
There might be parts suppliers located out of country, that much is possible, and it might be possible foreign-owned companies that have vehicle facilities here buy American-made parts. But I don't know about that...
I do know that my hometown is a huge place for Chrysler and GM, as well as for parts suppliers. Granted, that's because Toledo is like an hour South of Detroit, huge automobile region.

The truth of the whole matter is, apart of style and fuel economy options, American-owned car companies are providing vehicles that are every bit as reliable, sometimes more so, than foreign equivalents. Of course, without maintenance, no car will last forever.

My parent company is the Toyota distributor for the southeast. It employs thousands of people across multiple business sites in the United States including me. I haven't spent a dime outside of the United States in my adult life. 😛

If you want to help the american economy, don't shop at big box stores and huge chains and support small mom and pops operations instead.

+1

This will also do more for our culture. This country will be an ugly place once it's been completely taken over by franchises.

Far as I can tell, the only real difference between buying American and buying an import is which executives take home millions of dollars. Both employ plenty of workers (whether in factories, service centers, or dealerships) from both their home country and other countries as well.

Stupid fucking rednecks.

I wonder what they think of my Saab 92-X Aero... Its a swedish car company, wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors and the car was made by Fuji Heavy Industries Japan (Subaru).

If the American automakers would make a car that would average 70mpg+ I would be on it. Hell, even 50 mpg for a 4 seater would be acceptable at this point.

Btw, my former utility vehicle was a Ford and the current is a Chevy. My daily driver is the Insight.

You have a Mexican-made VW

Rabbits are built in Germany. The 2.5 is built in Mexico, and not much else if I recall.

Some GTi's and GLi's are also made in Mexico (at least 65% of it is...)

How can you be saying that? These people are getting paid, aren't they? How is money leaving the country? 😕
