I thought it was a lame fad started by people who watched Conan Obrian and saw his lever that played random Chuck Norris clips. That's the first and last place I've seen anything remotely funny relating to Chuck Norris. I assumed that it was ripped off from his show, and became another generic internet fad that spread like wildfire to every form of chat online, burned itself out moments later, and continues to be used today.
