Just to spite all the PC people, I'm going to say "Merry Christmas" to every single person I see at work today (which is going to be a LOT of people). I don't care if Osama Bin Laden walks in with his turban and beard and declares a Jihad on me, I'm going to tell him to have a "Merry Christmas" and I'm not going to be afraid to do so. 😉 😀

I'm not offended by either.

I'll say Happy Holidays in general, but it's more courteous. Even so, Christians celebrate new years, so there's multiple holidays, and it's easier to say "Happy Holidays" than "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."

I find it amusing the idea that people would be offended in casual conversation.

I'm sorry, did I miss a memo or something? It's no different for me than last year, so who changed what?

the point is it shouldn't be painful for anyone to say either happy holidays or merry christmas. either one should be ok.

I'm not Christian, but I have chose to live in a Christian based society... therefore I choose to live with it.

And I bet not a one of them would care. On the other hand say Happy Holidays to some of those Fund A Mental Cases and they'll go ballistic.

Christmas in the US isn't a religious holiday, it is entirely secular. Christians have their part of it, which they participate in on their own, and everyone else gets together with family and shares presents. That has become the meaning of it here. What the hell are you going to change the name of the day to? People give presents on Christmas Day, not Holiday Day.

Thats definitely true. Working in customer service, many places require you to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. I've actually had people get all upset and correct me. Some even go so far as to talk to a manager when they hear the policy.

Thats the reason why I say Happy Holidays, since I usually just clump Christmas and New Years together and usually I dont see those people until after Winter break.

Everyone is afriad to say christmas because of fear of offending someone now.
the uptight politically correct stuffys are really getting on my nerves.

Define "everyone." 😕

specifically people who work in public places...
schools, malls, stores, radio stations, etc.
They're not "afraid" to, they are instructed by their respective corporate offices to do so. It's not about being "politically correct", it's all about the almighty dollar. And I don't give a good goddamn. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

But what does really BOTHER me is that most retail clerks are not allowed to come to work sporting a crown of thorns or to show their stigmata to the customers, whether their five blood oozing sores are divinely inspired or merely lovingly self inflicted.

And there's no place for truly observant customers to check their wooden crosses when they enter a store to go shopping.

Perhaps the worst thing is we can no longer randomly kill Jews on the street while screaming "Chirst Killer" throughout the entire month of December.

I feel the old customs are being lost and that the true meaning of Christmas is being buried in some horribly misguided attempt to include the whole of humanity in our hearts.

A lovely post, which has very little do to with what I said. Kindly point out to me where I suggested changing the name of anything.

Well what do you expect from a tree swinger with the handle of JungleMan1?

I'm offended that it became such a big deal what someone wishes someone else when they talk about buying useless colorful garbage that has nothing to do with anything in any way shape or form. Can we shut up about who was born and had their birthday changed to overlap which pagan festival and why I should care about whether or not stores commercialize Krishnamass or are declaring a war on the toothfairy.

Bet you would be mildly offended if it was Allahmas.
Just get over it. Christmas is a western Christianity holiday. Other religions celebrate a holiday this time of year.
Calling something a Winter Holiday is not uptight political.
It is the acknowledgment of the fact that 90% of the world is not Christian.

The entire egotistical Christian society gets on my nerves.
Not quite 90%

As "egotistical" as those pesky Christains seem to be, idiot know-nothings who spew pure, unadulterated sh1t that flies in the face of known statistics are even more annoying, wouldn't you agree? 🙂

Well the first number was one I pulled out of my ass. But seeing as how it is truly only offensive to 2/3's of the world then carry on... Merry Christmas!

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas are both acceptable terms. Happy Holidays covers every Holiday on the map, Merry Christmas covers 1 in particular.

The only thing that pisses me off is religious zealots ramming their beliefs down my throat this time of year.I don't give a flying fvck what they believe in ...why do they feel so compelled to push their beliefs on me?!?

I consider Christmas a day off something I don't get very many of.

If you both believe this you're deluded.

If you're both really fearful here you're pussies.

And even if somehow neither of the above apply you're both annoying whiners!

it annoys me but i have found myself saying "happy holidays" to customers as I see them all day because i am not sure who, if anyone i could be offending by saying christmas.

The only time i will say Merry Christmas is if they say it to me first.

Outside of work, I say merry christmas all the time.
Aren't you worried about offending people outside work too?
