Getting a pi tattoo is something that probably crosses every nerds head. I actually had a mental image in my head very close to what he has. Difference is, I'd not actually get it.

Pretty sure you could find people with matching tattoos who designed them on their own.

If you dont have the looks/sense of style to pull them off in your late teens-late 20s, then yes they are lame.

And then they get lame for pretty much everyone once you get into your 30s.

And they're meant to be permanent... that's why they're lame. I think it wouldn't be so bad if it was something that lasted for maybe a year or two... but permanent is lame.
