Every time I view a thread, I see my avatar displayed next to the 'Write your reply...' box at the bottom of the page. And every time I see that avatar, my immediate subconscious thought is "Oh, I've participated in this thread". And then I realize, no, that's not the case.
I understand the idea behind it. Saying "This is where you - Carson Dyle - write your reply." But it's unnecessary. And a little confusing.
