So I have a Toshiba Tecra laptop. 1.8ghz P4, Win XP, 512mb ram...... good enough, stuff, right?

Well, why the F does the audio always skip when I play DVD's / mp3's / video clips.... it would seem anything "audio" related. The video never messed up, but the audio always skips like every 10 minutes or so

What gives?

Creative has a replacement to the Extigy USB soundcard you could try if you have a spare $117, it's USB 2.0 so it might not have the skip / stutter problems that the USB 1.1 devices had.

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX External USB Sound System $117 @ newegg. I thought they also had an analog-only model for around $50 but newegg doesn't list it.

And yes I have updated drivers.

crappy integrated sound? I don't know laptops, but my old athlon setup had integrated AC'97 and the thing crackled constantly if anything demanded cpu power.

it's not really crackling, but skipping like what would happen if you were running low on memory

but it happens all the time 🙁
