I used to do it sometimes while even defragging :p

Didn't the defrag tool have little squares that changed color so you didn't need the cursor-as-indicator? Or am I thinking of a standalone tool that everyone recommended in lieu of the shitty built in defrag tool?

Same. That might have been something like... WTH was it called; DiskDoctor? I can't remember that old crap anymore. Maybe it was SpeedDisk. Even on XP I enjoyed watching the red bars turn blue and move. Talk about a stupid waste of time, but it still beat TV :^D

Norton SpeedDisk, maybe? That had more features than the regular defragmenter, and could do some nice things with FAT16 and FAT32 drives.


Defragmenter of choice now: MyDefrag. Its "Optimize Monthly" option sounds like it's darn thorough. One small problem: Drives now are so large that there's not always a whole lot to watch on the defrag map.
