This rheobus?

I haven't seen anyone mentioning that they use one of these to control their fans. I like the fact that it fits in a 3.5" bay (which I wouldn't use anyway.) Are there any issues with this rheobus or should I consider the sunbeam?

One thing I have noticed with this and many other rheobuses is that it only goes to 7 volts. The Sunbeam adjusts down to 0v. That way you can yourn your fans off if you desire. That may not be an issue for you though.

I don't think I'd be turning any of my fans off completely in this computer. As I don't use very powerful fans to begin with, a 7 volted fan would probably suffice for quietness. Is there anything else for me to be concerned about with this rheobus?

It's rated max output is 8 watts per channel, so you can't use higher power fans like the tornado. No big loss there though. 😀

But you will need to be sure the fans you do attach to it are rated less than 8 watts or total less than that. And most are. I've never used that one so I have no clue if it's any good or not. The Sunbeam rhoebus I use is rated at 20 watts per channel and I have 3 fans on one channel. It's for a 5.25" bay.

I doubt if I would use any fans that draw more than 3 watts (120mm L1a perhaps) so this isn't a concern.

I think it should be noted that most 12V fans will 'shut-off' at around 7V anyway. Ive been designing my own homebrew adjustable bus and 3 of the fans Ive used for testing all stop spinning at around 6-7 volts.

Most common fans are around .2 Amps. That gives 2.4 watts. If you have fans with LEDs, then each LED would be around 20mA. Still around 2.6 watts total. I cant see how you could go beyond 8 Watts.

I had 1 and sent it back (different vendor but same item). You won't be turning any fans off because you can't as there is no click position and it stays on all the time. I too liked the idea of using my spare 3 1/2 bay but decided to put in a USB2.0 card Reader instead 🙂

Not for my use as other then no Off click, the lights were to low for my taste and the fact that I thought it was cheaply put together was the Main reason for return, but I guess for smaller v fans it'll work and the Cosmetics didn't look that bad.

Was the bus metal or plastic on the front? I'm glad to hear the led's weren't too bright, as I don't want anything blowing me away.

Does anyone have a source for a review of this thing? I don't even see a brand on it, but it's carried by both pcmods and svc.
