phone surveys will always be skewed. they don't include cell phone only users who are generally younger and smarter than non-cell phone only users.

Did you even read the article? It said that old people were the culprits.

My point is that their sample is not representative of the overall population.

Meh. So some people don't remember the year. Big deal. I never judge someone's intelligence based on their ability to memorize numbers or data - especially numbers that have no impact on people's daily lives. Not saying the day had no impact, but misremembering it as 2002 or 2000 really doesn't effect anyone negatively besides getting ridiculed on ATOT.

It's easy for me, the day after I joined Anandtech!

About the 5% getting the month and day wrong...

What was the question like?

"On what month and day did the Septemeber 11th attack happen?"

"Uhh... October 3rd?"

I really find this hard to believe. I have no memory for history or current events, but that entire day is seared in my brain.

What's wrong with people.

What's the statistic for the rest of the world I wonder.

I'm speechless. It's not like it was Pearl Harbor where it was more than 60 years ago (even then I still know it was Sunday Dec 7, 1941), but it was 5 years ago! Tuesday Sept 11, 2001!

So what.

If they didn't remember what month or day 9/11 happened (or the events) I'd be very concerned, but people generally suck at historical dates, period.
