This racist remark doesn't bother me, but . . .

Michael Irvin

It doesn't bother me because Michael Irvin is an idiot and I consider the source, but I also think of how guys like Jimmy the Greek and Howard Cosell were treated after making similar comments.

Double standard, or am I just being anal?

Of course there is a double standard. You're allowed to make racist remarks if your black silly. No one will ever question you in the PC community. I thought you knew this already? I'd like to hear his views on Asians especially Koreans. That'd make for a good show.

There are still a lot more white people in this country who actually have power. People are more sympathetic to people who don't have much power or are perceived to not have much power. I'm not saying it is right; what I am saying is that there is lots of ignorance and racism from all kinds of people in this country. That guy who used to be on Jerry Seinfeld and then this guy on ESPN. I'm sure there are lots more out there who are hiding it.

But is it their ignorance or just built up hatred? Or both? Some people fight with a lot of power to remain ignorant. It takes effort to learn.

When you say, "You're allowed to make racist remarks if your black silly", that doesn't help at all. You are generalizing quite a bit. If you were actually allowed to make racist remarks like that if you're black, then you would not see this story covered here. We just see more white people being criticized. Ask yourself why. Maybe there is more of a history of them actually being this way?

Where is this double standard you people are complaining about? From what I can see, the reactions to his comments are about as negative as I would expect, and clearly the folks running the radio show didn't think too highly of what he said.

Will Irvin get fired over this? Fined? Reprimanded? Suspended? I think not.
Will ESPN bury this and pretend like it never happened... most likely.

Racist remarks are wrong no matter who says them. Start a writing campaign about this and get him fired.

Already been busted with crack and then he says this. Limbaugh didn't even say this and he was ripped apart.

Actually, I think it's pretty undisputable that black people are better athletes than anyone else (on average). Still idiotic that he made those comments.

He is saying that 'brothers' are genetically predisposed to be good athletes... and that this fellow's athletic ability suggests that there MUST have been some genetic donation into his blood line...

To me he is not putting down the blacks... nor the whites... it seems he may be indicating some scientific analysis exists to support his ascertian... Common acceptance does not meet that test..

I think to be racist someone has to be somewhat derogatory toward a race other than his own.. not just a person's great great great grandma.. But that is only my opinion.

BS.

If I said something along the lines of, "Man, Denzel Washington is a brilliant man and a great actor. There must have been a little cream in his grandma's coffee!" I'd be blasted for making a racist statement.

He is being deragotory towards whites. He is saying that a white person could not possibly be that good of an athlete. He is putting down the whites, but thats ok, whitey deserves it right?

I think there's something that everyone here is missing. Tony Romo plays for the team that Michael Irvin used to play for, and they know each other. His continual laughing has to be because of some inside joke between he and Romo. They may not be best friends, but they do know each other. Of course, it also could have been that white powder he had in his pocket, that was making him act that way, also.

The only thing that makes me feel inferior is a remark that unconsciously triggers a remark I already unconsciously believed long ago before I could critically think about what was being said. So since I was made to feel totally worthless almost anything can bother me. I'm even going to be pissed if somebody agrees with what I just said.

Sorry to inform you, but generalizations are generally true. The exceptions make the rule.
