This PSU powerful enough?

that is the PSU i currently have in my computer. i was wondering if this thing has enough juice to run atleast a 9800 pro GPU, what about a 6600GT AGP? i currently have 1x HDD, 1x 8 in1 media card reader, and 1x 8xDVD+RW drive connected to it.

I don't know whether power-on is a good PSU or not (if it's any consolation, it appears to be well designed, airflow-wise), but if it really does output 300W and a sustained 12V @ 15A as it specifies, it should be fine for a 9800 Pro; however, I wouldn't chance it on a 6600/6800--those require nearly double the power of a 9800. (You'll run out of 12V juice, especially with any P4 or A64/FX, since those CPUs get power from the 12V line.)

For better answers, which CPU do you have? (Prescott P4s are the most power-hungry CPU out there, so if you have one of those, it should be a consideration, even with the 9800.)

i have a AMD Athlon barton 2800+ @2.08ghz 333FSB, so i take it that means that a 9800 pro should do fine in there?

I wouldn't risk it w/ that psu. Never heard of that brand. Plus the low 12v rail is questionable. Do a couple of searches. People will recommend something from Antec, Fortron, Enermax, etc.

Even if you're under budget there are still several better choices than then one you post.

I have to agree with phlashphire... take risk out of the equation when it comes to power concerns. i like to have at least another 50W extra on top of what i need and also it is interesting to actually check out the specs of power supplies... there are some good deals out there from lesser companies, but you gotta be careful. 300W of good power is better than 600W of crap from a generic company.
it sucks when you don't really want to buy something more for your rig, but that is one area that you kinda have to.

#1 the 6600 series requires less power than the 9800Pro series. A lot of times the 6600's do not even have an external molex connector which means they draw all their power from the AGP/PCI-E slot.

#2 DO NOT get that PSU. PSU is one of the most important parts of your computer. Do not skimp on it. I would highly reccommend Antec or Enermax for that price range. Get a true power or a noisetaker. THey are a little more but they are WORLDS better. 15Amps on the 12V rail is the BARE minimum.

FOr $85 you can get an OCZ powersupply unit which is Top o' the line right up there with PC Power and Cooling.

i'm not getting that psu, i HAVE that psu, and i have an AGP based system, which requires the molex connector.

That is not a Power-On brand it is a Bestec brand I believe. It is very pricey for what it is (Bestec isn't known as a top brand and 300W is skimpin a bit) but it should power what you have listed. That would be the max that I would try with that PSU though, and when you are upgrading in the future make sure that hits the top of the list.
