Greetings Group,

My (gaming) system has been working just great as of late but recently, like once in awhile,
my DVD/Cd player would take a long time to start reading whatever I would put in.

So the last past few days when ever I would put in a DVD or Cd while in Windows, I repeat, while in Windows my system would just hang...I would have to do a reboot.

So i figure that my burner was just getting ready to go to the trash-can :) so, after work I stop by my regular hardware store and pick up a new "Sony" DVD/Cd player and as soon as I get home I install it and then test it and BAM...it does the hang thing again on me.. wtf!!

So, I give <grrrrr> I thought I better just come in here and ask the real guru's for some help. Thanks again...

The only times I have seen that happen is with bad media. Might not be the problem since you have tried multiple discs.

If you have a linux livecd (like Kanotix, Knoppix, etc) or could burn one at another computer, you could boot to it, and see if works in that system. That would eliminate anything windows system related.

Try another cable and if the problem persists, try another channel. Also check the device manager for any IRQ or address conflict. This is not suppose to happen but it has.
