Since my job can be extremely dull sometimes and has a lot of downtime I have valid excuses for hanging around forums all day :D I usually post over at Hardforum but I've been frequenting here as of late because variety is indeed the spice of life!

It's sad when you start a conversation with "There was this thread on Anandtech...."

Although largely a waste of time and bandwidth, it is also useful. Not quite as efficient or useful as other sources of knowledge, but a hell of a lot more entertaining. Overall a good place to waste my time. :)

Thanks to ATOT and Crew for putting up with me.

I've just started catching myself doing this with my wife.

I guess it's a tribute to all the interesting topics that come up here.

Although I'd have to say that I can think of several things that have been a much much bigger waste of my time:
Quake 2
Rogue Spear
Medal of Honor
Battlefield 1942

I've played a minimum of 10 hours a week since I started gaming about 4 years ago.
10 x 52 x 4 = 2080 hours = 86.7 solid days of my life wasted playing computer games. And that's just in the last 4 years.

Not bad.

Thats just for writing the replies, doesn't take into account reading the 5 pages of posts prior to a reply lol.

Amen. So true.

EDIT: I was actually half-hoping you were gonna post a link you had found to another place as the biggest waste of time. Heh.

You make it your homepage? :Q

I feel the same way at a lowly 500 posts, I can't imagine the sorrow you're experiencing. . .

But just think of all the n00bs that you've helped out over the many posts. . .

. . .and try and not get even more depressed.

I know I gained a few things from these forums...so its not all to waste.

I increased my writing skills and my debating skill (me vs NFS4 --> maxima vs camry :p; me vs shantanu --> logical vs idiot :D).

Not only that, but I gained quite a bit on knowledge on various topics.

The most significant aquisition is that of different opinions from all sorts of different members of different backgrounds. Its really neat to see how our backgrounds affect our opinions/thoughts/ideas.

You guys broadened my knowledge/mind, I only hope I can do the same.
