Uh, was there a question in there somewhere? I don't remember one. As for the topic of this thread, I regard Tom DeLay as the 21st-century's iteration of the old Chicago political machine. I have already written my senators and congressperson to ask for the appointment of an independent counsel to investigate his shenanigans, which I consider as among the most harmful instances of fundraising sleaze in American history.

To me this has nothing to do with partisanism, and I am every bit as disgusted by Democrats soliciting graft as I am Republicans. I find it entertaining that you regard me as such a liberal because I oppose neoconservatism - I may not be as liberal as you think.

Again, your lost-puppy fascination with me remains flattering. I'm not at all homophobic - I had several men hit on me when I was in law school in SF - I politely declined, as I will this time.

In rereading the thread, I still fail to see a question directed toward me or anyone else. If you're asking why I mentioned serving in the military, I brought it up only to refute your categorical statement that ALL lawyers work only in pursuit of personal gain - that just isn't true. They called an investigation of alleged improper Westar contributions for Legislative favors and the report states:

"The information we obtained indicates that neither Representative DeLay nor anyone acting on his behalf improperly solicited contributions from Westar, and Representative DeLay took no action with regard to Westar that would constitute an impermissible special favor," the report said.

However, the committee said the golf fund-raising event "created the appearance of impropriety."

Seems a far cry from the demagoguery name calling that is passing for discussion here:

A couple of his aides are presently under indictment, and it appears the grand jury is looking at Rep DeLay as well. The indictment couldn't come too soon for my liking.
