Your example is flawed. When you come to my place, I'm asleep, not starting a fight with someone. I am not a combatative threat.

If my friend starts a fight, yeah, he gets to deal with it until he needs to be bailed out. Then I'll step in. But if soemone else tries to start a fight with my friend, no, f%$# you, you're going down. That's what this looked like.

Anything goes in fights. That's why they call them fights.
