Well, im not that uptight about it, but i figured it would get somebody to read my little thread here!!
So, i got a P4P800 from another trader here on ATforums, and its being a little frustrating . . .
My system is as follows:
P4 2.53Ghz 533fsb
Asus P4P800 with bios version 1008
2x 256mb PC3200 crucial memory
ATI Radeon 9800 (non pro)
Audigy2
WD 80gb 8mb chache Hard drive
ED 100gb 8mb chache hard drive
Maxtor 160gb 8mb cache hard drive
ata133 controller card
liteon dvdrom 16x
yamaha 20x burner
antec 350watt psu
windowsxp pro

NOTE: ALL memory timings are set to SPD.
I started having this problem with my two sticks of crucial pc2100, so i got new memory but the problem persisted. If i enable anything other than "auto" under the performance option in the chipset portion of the bios, my system becomes unstable (windows errors, crashes, etc). If i enable "turbo" mode, i get a bios checksum error upon reboot, and then i am forced to make a recovery off of the cd. The only way i can get the system to be stable is to leave the performance option set to "auto" but then my system delivers substandard performance. As far as i can tell, this problem manifests itself at both pc2100 and pc2700 memory speeds. I have tried using slots 1 and 3 in dual channel mode, as well as slots 2 and 4, niether seems to solve my problem. Is my board bad? With "stable" bios settings i only get 2900mb/s in sisoft sandra, but my score should be around 3300 (i can get that with performance options enabled, but it isnt stable). Also, the board overvlolts the cpu vcore from the default 1.525v
to 1.58v. Is this dangerous?

In addition, my memory was selected at crucial's website, and it is supposedly compatible with the P4P800.

thanks guys,
butch :disgust:

EDIT: Ill also point out, that in anand's memory roundup for the 865pe/875 motherboards crucial pc3200 ran in a p4p800 with MAM enabled and performance set to turbo. i dont think im being fanatical to expect the same. Plus, im just running my timings at SPD.

ill assume its a 533fsb cpu?

you should be using the black ram slots.
(blue ram slots are unstable for 533fsb cpu use)
use bios version 1008.003 or newer.
set your ram voltage to 2.85v.
set your vagp to 1.7v.

HTH :)

Yep, its a 533fsb cpu (2.53). I cant say i have noticed there is a difference between using slots 1 -3 and 2 - 4, but i dont know if im comfortable pushing voltages that high. Is it reallly necessary for default speeds? im not even overclocking or anything!!! also, i dont see any settings for agp in the bios, and i have been trying to set it in ati's driver panel. I set it to 8x agp with fastwrites, but when i restart im back to 4x with no fastwrites. Anybody have an idea?

My setup:
P4P800
P4 2.53
Radeon 9800 (cat 3.4)
audigy2
2x 256 crucial pc2100
leadtek tv200xp
3hard drives
2 opticals

thats about it, thanks for the help guys-
If you dont know the answer, i would appreciate a bump anyway!

at work bump! I just realized i never installed the "intel inf driver." Could that be the cause of my performance problems?

I've also had issues with the P4P800-Deluxe. I installed the following components:

Asus P4P800-Deluxe w/ Intel P4C 2.4 GHz
2x256 Kingston HyperX (dual channel)
2xWD Raptors RAID0
Antec TrueBlue 480

Initially when I attempted to boot the system it wouldn't power up. After fussing with the ATX cables, I was able to start everything and using default values I was able to install Windows XP fine. After flashing the BIOS to 1008, I decided to try changing the value of "Performance Mode" to "Turbo" and the BIOS crashed, generating a checksum error and I wasn't able to actually recover from it. The system, before this BIOS tweak, would occassionaly crash, even when using the default values in the BIOS. I was wondering if anybody had similar issues, and if so, what is the work around?

Thanks,
Evan

Yep. Install them. Also, you shouldn't need to bump any voltages trying to run things at stock.

#1. your crucial memory isn't made or 2-2-2-5 operation but its really good quality ram so it does in single channel mode
#2. Dual channel is more stressful on your memory, it should be a "obviously, your timings won't be as high" and 2.5CL is standard for your crucial
#3. performance mode is known to crash non Low Latency memories..MAM has less problems.
#4. ~3000 on Sisandra is normal for 2.5CL PC2100ram, my OCZ PC3700 running @ 266mhz (still faster than yours) are around 3400

**don't think dual channel gives u theoretical speeds, the actual speeds are far from that!

The P4P800 is VERY pick about timings. Even with XMS 3500 which will run 2-2-2-5 in single channel mode, when I pair them up in dual channel it's a no go (still unstable at 2-3-2-6 DDR 400!). I'm going to try HyperX next.

Forget any memory perfomance enhancing settings, your RAM can't handle it. Setting it to "auto" loses nothing, unless you think Sandra means something, in which case I can't help you.

I'd suggest starting over, if you didn't follow the proper OS/patch/driver installation routine. I'm not saying that's the issue, because it sounds like a pure hardware problem, but it would be smart. If it were me, I'd start with 2.5-3-3-8 timings at above-stock voltage and try to establish a known-stable home base there, then tinker with timings if you must. THUGSROOK, you ought to do a performance comparison between 2.5-3-3-8 and 2-3-2-6 on a dual-channel setup for us, so I can point to your findings when the new DC owners are freaking out that they can't run 2-2-2-5 :D

Also, consult your PCI-slot IRQ chart in your manual for a PCI slot that doesn't share its IRQ, for your ATA133 card.

I second the idea that it's a memory timing issue. Lots of makers aren't able to run the spd values in these new motherboards. Relax CAS to RAS by 1 number and up the voltage to 2.75 and then see what works. GoldMemory from www.goldmemory.cz is a good shareware util for testing the memory subsystem.

Make sure you get your whole head in front of the shotgun, 'cause nobody likes a cripple. They only pretend they do on Labor Day.

mechBgon ~ all my posts are @ bleedinedge.com now. its gotten too difficult for me to post seperate threads in all the forums i visit.

:)

i have to agree its a memory issue.
this is MY MOTHERBOARD he has! (im not gonna hide that fact) ;)
i used KHX3000 and XMS3200LL w/o any probs on it.

im working with butch thru PMs.

:D

--incidentally, im having pretty much the same problems described by rewt.
