I just got this arrived yesterday installed this afternoon.

It's nice and fast... runs Crysis Warhead on Enthusiast no problem 30+... 1680 x 1050. Everything else so far is awsome...

Running with 702 core/1512 shader/2160 mem <--- faster then the SC versions so save $ and go with the stock... OC'd with EVGA precision...

I struggled with a similar choice earlier this week. I went with the GTX 260 for ~220 after MIR because it had more memory than a similarly-priced 4870 with only 512MB. Depending on the budget, I like the following cards:

~$100 - 9800GT
~$150 - 4850 512MB
~$200 - GTX260
~$275-$300 - 4870 1GB

Buy off eBay with MS cashback deal (25% currently, check Hot Deals forum for details). I got my GTX 260 a month ago for $170 shipped.

k I dont mean to hijack my own thread here but after doing some more research i decided against these cards and am now at a new problem. I want to tone down the price a little bit and have come to these 3 cards. Your guys help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

HIS Hightech H485QS1GP Radeon HD 4850 1GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814161245

SAPPHIRE 100242-1GL Radeon HD 4850 1GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102759

EVGA 512-P3-N878-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ SSC Edition 512MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130386

once i figure out what card to get I order all my stuff for the build so this is the last piece so if anyone can give a straight answer on which one to get that would kick ass.

P.S. BTW my budget for a card is 200 so if you have another card you want to throw into the ring thats the price I want to stay at. Thanks again for your time guys.

Either of the 4850's look good. I have never owned a HIS or Sapphire brand, so maybe someone else here can recommend a specific one?

(Not a bash on AMD, but their 3rd party companies really suck compared to Nvidia; give me an EVGA 4850/4870 anyway!)

P.S. I think it's "OK" to hijack your own thread...:)

I believe the cores on the 9800GTX+ and the 4850 are more or less equal. But both of those 4850's have 1GB of memory so I'd think they'd perform slightly better at higher res/with AA then that 9800GTX+ or the 512MB 4850's.

For just a bit more then $200 you can get a 4870 512MB, that would probably be your card if you are looking to spend around that. If you don't mind mail in rebates there are some pretty nice deals on those cards.

ZOTAC is also a reputable and new brand if your looking for 260, not pushing you but I had less issues with cards from them then with EVGA.
