Plus the people, for the most part, are very friendly and down-to-earth. Nearest big city (Green Bay, WI) is two hours away.

Anyway... that sucks OP. If he didn't break your window, did you leave your car unlocked?

The shark was locked. The passenger side window has some nice prints along the top of it and marks like a slim jim was used. Best I can put together. Like everyone else has mentioned. I need to keep the valuables out of view or just take them with me.

I love the razor blade idea. Kind of sucks how society doesn't want you to protect your stuff and tries to make the dirtbag criminal out to be the victim though with the lawsuits and such.

Solid advice. My friend said the same thing to me when I got out here. I guess I needed to learn this one the hard way.

I come from a really rural small town where most folks don't bother your stuff. Adjustment time, this isn't NE PA anymore.

We don't lock our house and I leave my keys in the truck 24/7.

same here. except i don't have a truck. : /
i could leave an open bag on money on my car seat and the odds are very good that it wouldn't be stolen.

When I lived in Grand Forks, ND we'd leave our car running in the parking lot while we did our grocery shopping if it was the dead of winter. I can't remember if we locked the doors or not. The first couple years we lived there the door to our (rental) house didn't lock easily so we usually just left it. Never had a problem.

And no offense to the OP, but leaving a GPS on your dash in NYC (or any city, or near any city) is pretty much retarded.

lol that just reminded me, we had a delivery company pick up a bunch of O&M manuals to deliver to a customer one time, left his engine running. it was in front of the shop, wall of windows and we were all standing there. someone stole it and no one noticed a thing hehe. he was pissed tho, it was his personal vehicle. we got a 10% discount because they had to dispatch another driver, and our manuals were late. he got a ride back to work.
