I hope so, since I bought it. Can't build yet -- waiting for my E6600 to arrive.

I'm just aiming for a solid gaming rig, with no intentions of OC-ing.

you'll be happy with it, but in my past experience, intel is picky on the ram selection. usually if you use some really high end stuff, the bios will get all funky and freeze, etc. It'll still run fine, but I couldn't even be in the bios for more than 20 seconds without it locking up.

As a general rule, Intel boards aren't really for gaming or overclocking, they're for rock solid stability. The D975XBX seems to be an exception, as it can handle both games, overclocks and is stable, but that's about it. I havn't tried this board or seen any reviews about it, but since it's not a high end intel board, I don't think it will be a phenomenal performer in the gaming aspect. That's not to say it won't perform though, just not as well as some other ones I'm guessing.

In practice, any motherboard + cpu that was introduced in the past 2 years are capable of playing the latest games, provided that you stress the gpu as much as possible. IMO, anyone who purchases a top of the line cpu for gaming, and already has a decent cpu, purchased it for bragging rights or is misinformed about what kind of performance it can realistically produce. An overclocked core 2 duo is probably twice as fast as an fx62 in 800x600, but in 1600x1200 with AF, AA, and HDR, a core 2 duo is the equivilant of a p4.

If the 30% multithreaded configuration bonus seen on quake 3 @ 1280x1024 is lost on 1600x1200, I hardly think the conroe-p4 comparison is an exageration.
