Most professional soccer players can do that, but you rarely see them do it in a real game. Because these moves are useless in a real game, a good strong defender will knock you the fvck out if you tried to pull off one these tricks in front of their face.

Real soccer is all about teamwork, unless your name is maradona, hardly you will ever see a one man show boat that breaks down 3 or 4 defenders in a row with spetacular moves and score for the goal, because the more fancy you get, the easier it is for defenders to knock the ball away.

True, basically it is practiced for ball control, to get a feel for the ball, to know where it is at.

I find baseball & golf enjoyable to wathc, and enjoy playing raquet sports, baseball, golf & hockey.

lol, for me I dont enjoy any sports but do enjoy being healthy and in shape. On some occasions sports such as boxing and football can be entertaining though.

Hockey is the only one i like out of those, to watch that is, i play tennis and used to play golf but it's just too boring.

This thread needs a better title and those skills are pretty damn impressive..

However, as a soccer player, i agree that those skills are useless on the field

a good strong defender will knock you the fvck out

As a soccer player, I can state that those skills are very important on the field.

Ball Control, Quick reflexes and great balance.

True, but those tricks are as consequence of these skills.. how often do you see fancy tricks in a real game?

To use it practically isn't very useful. You can circle your leg around the ball all you want but that just means you'll have more defenders rushing up to you. I can't recall an Olympic or World Cup match where I saw fancy schmancy tricks where the guy stands in place that actually helped him or his team.

And how many Maradonas or Peles are there? Even the current greats like Zidane only uses the more elaborate skills once every often, and they don't always work either.

I was just arguing that any soccer player who can say what that guy is doing is useless, doesn't really understand the game of soccer.

He has incredible ball control, which will help in almost every situation where the ball is near him. He needs to know where to be on the field, but once he has that down, his ball control will always be coming into play.

Then you've got quickness and how light you are on your feet, this is another huge part of soccer, especially if hes a wing or a center. His moves with the ball / step overs / fakes / etc, are also a pretty big part of a wings job. You won't see a ton of moves in succession during a game, but you will most likely see at least 1 similar move per run (a quick stepover or a quick fake).

You can circle your leg around the ball all you want but that just means you'll have more defenders rushing up to you.

Just because you are stepping over the ball doesn't mean you are standing in place. All it takes is 1 good stepover while the ball is moving forward to throw a defender off and cause a large break away.

We used to have a portion of practice strictly dedicated to step overs / fakes / etc. I started out playing a left wing (I'm left footed).

I can understand what you're saying, but the way he's doing it in the video is just useless in a real game. I have 2 cousins who play on a collegiate level with another on the way and they all agree. Yes the guy can probably fake out people without trying, but as was done in the video, it was useless.

damn, the kid's good... I used to play hackey sack a lot and I can barely do some of those moves with a hack... He's doing orbitals and mirages and stuff like that. And as for why that's useful, even if he doesn't do that stuff on the field, it still gives him the control to make the ball do what he wants while he's playing, even if he isn't doing quite that.
