This Just occured to me

actually, when i read this in the OMG SNIPER thread:

"It makes you realize how close to anarchy we really are though. Despite all our pretenses, humans are not inherently civilized. We are externally civilized by the institutions we've built up for that purpose, but strip those away and we're right back down there with the animals in less then 3 days."

it made me think of Heart of Darkness

Evil is a matter of perspective.

people shooting at relief workers and hospitials is EVIL no matter how you look at it

Oxymoronic. We have the tendency to set up institutions alone indicates we are civilized. OF course, there always will be some % of idiots who will try to run amok during times of chaos.

What if the relief workers started shooting first?

How is that 'evil'? The word evil itself implies religious belief. I say it's raw drive of survival of the fittest. Are they dumbasses and immoral pieces of shiits? Yes. Are they evil? Eveil IS a matter of perspective.

Does that make ALL of us inherently evil?
And it may not appear to be evil from the viewpoint of the people committing said acts. Not that I'm defending them.

i think the point of Heart of Darkness is that civilization is a very thin pretense that shields us from our dark natures. certainly it implies that civilization is externally forced upon us and is not something we inherently posses. whether i agree with it or not, the quote and the NO situation made me think of it, and this thread is about how it made one person think of Lord of the Flies. are you threatened by my corollary? 😛
