This just isn't right . . . .

My mom is a pediatrician and I was at her office yesterday since she wanted me to help her with the new office computer . . .

Anyways, it was about 5pm, so almost closing time and the last patient (little girl, about 6 years old, and her father, i would say about early to mid 30s) walked up to the receptionists desk and said they had Medi-Cal (i dunno how to explain what it is for non-Californians and stuff, i guess, state insurance ??)

Anyways, I overheard it because I was just installing some security utilities on the other computer

I went back to my Moms car to get my backpack which had my USB drive to transfer some files when I saw the same 2 (father and daughter) get into a late model Audi A4 Convertible

I would say, maybe 2003 or 2004 model

I saw that it was a 3.0, so it must have been a $40-50K car! And they're using Medi-CAL!

Cliffs Notes:
1. Go to mom's medical practice
2. Patient says they're using Medi-CAL
3. See patient in late model Audi A4 Convertible
4. Visit AudiUSA.com, build similar car on website, see it is about $43,000

When I was in grad school, some of my co-students were volunteering at a state run program to give car seats to people receiving wellfare. You would be surprised at how many lexus, acuras, and etc. showed up.

Medi-CAL is for people who cannot afford health insurance

If you can afford a $43,000 car, IMHO, you can afford health insurance.

Did you run a check on their tags and registration, they very well may borrow the car from family or friends because they dont have one.

perhaps its a case of they bought a $40-45k car making $15-20k/year and all the money goes towards high payments (and intrest rates) and insurance?

\/ yeah, what zenmervolt said

You have no idea how easy it is to get financed on a car like that if you're OK with stretching yourself and not saving anything.

I would have no trouble right now, at 22, going out and getting financed for a $35,000+ car. I made just over $13,000 last year (was in college most of that year, only worked at a "real" job since September).

Dealerships will finance almost anyone, and the people with very nice cars are often the ones with the least money because they are over-extending themselves.

And obviously you asked the guy for the car registration so you could ascertain that it was indeed his car before making this judgement?
