This isnt a black widow spider correct? --Now you decide its fate!

Leave it in the jar, it will die eventually. Black widows can be dangerous but are rarely fatal. OTOH you could burn your house down trying to get rid of it.

I threw an ant in the jar with it. I dont think I have the balls to try and catch a bee and put it in there.

Right now they are just sitting on opposite sides of the jar doing nothing. 🙁

LOL, you managed to get a female black widow in a jar, and you're afraid of a bee? Maybe someone here needs to inform you of the effects of a bite from a female black widow. Good job by the way, nice pic's.

I found one of these inside my home a few years back, had a web built around a rear floor speaker. She got a RAID shower. Brown recluse are worse because they are MUCH more plentiful around here. And nasty, nasty bites.

Now that you have it jarred you know what's next don't you?
You have to let the spider bite you.
Then post here asking for medical advice, but make sure you don't listen to any of it OR go to see a real doctor.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! do it!

i will never move to north carolina now... thanks 🙁

In my 18, close to 19, years in NC, I have only seen one black widow. And that was in Asheville after my grandfathers funeral. Never seen one in Charlotte.

I've been thinking about this freaking spider all day long. It has captivated me. Has she eaten yet? I want more pictures.

That looks like a male northern black widow. I wouldn't risk messing with it or keeping it in a jar. Either take it to a wooded area and get rid of it or kill it, I'm sure where it came from there are others so it's no tlike your doing anything wrong.

Last time I checked she was just sitting on top a blade of grass not really doing much. The ant doesnt seem to cross paths with it too often and pretty much just stays in its on the opposite side.

Maybe Ill be able to catch a fly tomorrow....

At least vid cap/record a few bug battles with crickets and such before you kill it. I say keep it as a pet. Be a wuss and just buy the crickets from a pet store if you want. I just want to see some action.

I freaking hate spiders but that thing is wicked cool. How long do they live for anyways? Keep it as a pet and throw in some companions for her 😀

*CONFIRMED* they do live in NC, they do they do! But I rarely see them, maybe 1 or 2 in the garage. And contrary to popular opinion, they're the most fraidy spiders EVAR. Like they got no balls, they see a light turn on and they run and hide. I've never found any outside the garage. Of course, I'm in western NC. Eastern NC is a different story...bigger snakes, bigger spiders, more ways to DIE!

1. catch a bug or another spider.
2. put it in the jar with the bw.
3. record video.
4. post on atot.
5. ...profit!

I do agree with putting another bug in there and watch the mayhem about to ensue... and we'll need pics at a minimum.

I say get a larger tank and throw her in there, but build some sorta release device/chamber into the top so you can drop stuff in without opening the whole thing up and risk her climbing out and eating your eyeballs.
