I've got that one a couple times too. Last night after the 4th Telemarketer call of the day I got a great idea. My Phone, Internet, and TV Cable are all delivered over the Phone lines and all go through a Modem/Converter box. When someone Calls the number is displayed on my TV, which is nice and all, but since this happens I should be able to put the numbers I don't want calling me into a List kept in Memory on the Modem. I don't really expect to see such a thing anytime soon as the Phone Companies obviously are getting $$ out of Telemarketers, but evenntually someone will offer the Service.

I get calls from differing phone numbers that say "Your GM factory warranty is about to expire." While I do own a GM (Pontiac), I find it somewhat ironic when the entire company is about to expire. Also, the car isn't in my name.

I used to get those a lot then I actually followed the prompts and when I got a live person, I asked what type of car I had.

They responded a 2007 Viper......

I said, really? "Because the last time I checked it was a LandROVER!"

The person was quite for a few seconds then hung up on me. They stoped after that.... maybe I just lucked out.

I was in a meeting where the speaker phone in the middle of the table started ringing. We answered and it was this stupid message. They do it on any active number they can get.

I have all our phones on the DNC list and these calls continue to come in.

SUPPOSEDLY, they are robo-calls from scammers with spoofed numbers. Ever notice that the calls are almost always from different states/phone numbers?

I didnt think that actually worked. Ive had the same number since late 2000 when Tmobile was known as VoiceStream (I still have the original VS SIM card). Heck if Im going to change it.

Wow.... I didn't know there were any fellow Voicestream customers around anymore that hadn't switched to another company once they sold out to their new corp overlords (T-Mobile).

But yeah, do not call registry should help.

That happened to me for a while. I started filing complaints with the FCC every time it happened and the calls stopped. If it was a person, I asked them if they knew that they were liable for a federal fine each time they called my number. Never had them call back after asking that question.

They call me all the time too, I never recognize the number so it always goes to voice mail. Oh well

One of my coworkers got a call like that at work. He does not even own a car. He called them up and made them look really stupid. :p

I wish they would stop worrying about stupid stuff like copryright and start doing something about the actual harmful stuff like spam, telemarketing, voicemail spam, junk mail, junk fax etc.... It's getting retarded. Telemarketing should be illegal, as easy as that. Phone companies should have the legal power to simply cut their service off if anyone reports them.

They also need to make caller ID more secure so that you can't spoof it. It should be the DMS that sends the info, not the caller's phone. When you go private name, it would be a command that would just tell the DMS to not send it, but there should not be a way to actually spoof it, but it would still set a log so if you call trace it would tell you the number (and log it at the telco so they can verify for themselves). At least that would make sense... I don't know all that much about how telco network's work.

I got one of those calls. I laughed because my car was made in 1987. I was like, "cool. My car's warranty is about to expire. I have a 21 year warranty."

:D
