THIS is why republicans will lose. Hillary or Donald have nothing to do with it.

GOP Platform Committee Bucks 21st Century, Reaffirms Anti-LGBT Stance

CLEVELAND ― Republican delegates tasked with drafting the party’s official platform on Monday rebuffed several efforts aimed at bringing the GOP into the 21st century ― at least on paper.

Instead, GOP officials voted to reaffirm the party’s opposition to gay adoption, same-sex marriage, abortion and transgender individuals using public restrooms ― issues that generally have seen great progress in recent years.

Talk about bone headed.
Just give it up. Seriously.... Just give it up.

many people agree with that stance and vote for them accordingly

Not enough to win the election, that's the whole point of this thread.

When you have overwhelming support for gay marriage in the country, it's political suicide for the GOP to then officially say they are against it.

I think the electoral college is going to be a driving force in ensuring Trump's defeat. There's no way he's pulling in 270 electors with shit like this coupled with the party imploding and Donald himself being nearly as nuts as the people he's representing. The GoP is if anything only hurting themselves constantly pushing for more Hillary investigations. If anything they're desensitizing the public to Clinton controversy. Voters will be numb to it by November if they aren't already.

So out of all the issues at play in this election you think LGBTQ issues are going to be the deciding factor? When polls show it's wayyyyyyyyy down the list of voter concerns? While I disagree with this portion of their platform I can't see it being even statistically detectable how many people's votes are changed by this.

This is just one plank of the platform but it shows how out of touch the people crafting it are. Treating the general like the primary is going to be a sure path to total defeat for the party. You need more than the social conservatives and the olds to actually win.

Other than "economy" & "foreign policy" which honestly are pretty vague and probably swing wildly left & right. There is an interesting mix of issues for both parties to tackle.

The stupid establishment of the GOP is sticking to its guns (no pun intended) and kowtowing to the religious fucknuts. Just stupid but that is what the GOP is lately and has been for awhile.

It's not about Donald. That's a lost cause in the eyes of Repub leadership. It's about turnout. It's about revving up the base to hold the Senate & prevent erosion in the HOR.

It's one of their perma-issues, like abortion. Dunno that it'll work today but it's always helped keep people nutty enough to vote for failed Reaganomics.

No, not the deciding factor.
I was pointing this out as only one example from their platform.
I could have went on and on but this one example alone made my point.
And this was worthy of singling out because it does indeed stick out like a sore thumb.
This one issue alone is all one needs as an example of what to expect.

I have also noticed a "softening" of sorts from the far right since the Orlando nightclub mass shooting. I really expected republicans to simply "don't go there" when renewing their platform.
Obviously, words and actions do not necessarily equal the same.
I see this same double standard in the black community as well.
People that act "decent" to their black co-worker or black neighbors, but in private they don't hesitate to pull out the white hoods, as it were.

No, it's not just the LGBT issue. It is a whole bucket full of issues that they need to address.
And this is just one reason a Donald Trump rose to the lever of power that he has within their party.
All the dots easily connected.

Makes sense politically. They know they already lost the non-bigot vote by nominating Trump. Last thing they want is to lose the bigot vote too and get blown out in Congressional races.

Man. No arrogance there.

"Bring the GOP into the 21st century" = "Agree with democrats on pretty much everything."

Jackasses.

Conservatives have been drug kicking and screaming into every new century, so theres little reason to believe it will stop now.

It IS your job to educate now, whether you like it or not.

It's not my obligation to overcome your irrational hatred & ignorance. it's yours. I doubt you have it in you.

Just vote Trump, OK? He's obviously your kind of guy.

Make your pitch
I'm not a democrat (I'm a left-leaning libertarian), but I would pick Clinton over Trump any day. The pitch, boiled down to as simple as possible as I can make it:

Clinton is a known stable quantity and will likely pursue policies similar to Bill Clinton and Obama which have been good for businesses, had no new recessions*, were relatively peaceful, etc. Trump is a ticking time bomb.

Everything else you throw at Clinton or Trump is meaningless fluff meant to rile up the base but doesn't really matter. Clinton can be the antichrist and still pursue stable policies.

* Clinton and Obama are some of the only presidents who can claim that. 9 out of the last 11 recessions were started under GOP presidents and 41 out of the last 49 quarters of recessions were under GOP presidents.
