This is why newegg reviews are useless.

Lmao that is some funny sh*t 🙂

Yes your much better off reading a review site Anandtech or something than by going by product reviews on sites that sell stuff.

Newegg and Amazon reviews are incredibly useful to moderately well informed buyers. Most of the useful ones are clearly identifiable by the review text, and the same goes for the useless. I agree that they can be a trap for uninformed buyers, but in many cases that can be alleviated by providing a peer assessment of each review, which is now fairly common.

Agreed. I read them for HDD purchases and find value. If 1/2 the posters are saying "DOA" or "2 of my 3 drives were DOA - steer clear" I will do just that. Things like CPUs are almost always rated high unless they are just piles (P4D anyone?) or really expensive and get marked down for that (sometimes).

That's exactly why you don't just go by the eggs. I usually ready several of the reviews from each rating level before deciding. To me, the most important reviews are the ones from people who gave a product a low rating. I pretty much always get some useful information from the reviews though.

That's ScubaSteve. He is a prolific newegg review poster to say the least...

Spend much time deep-diving newegg reviews and you'll see him often.

I've never been able to confidently discern whether he is intentionally joke-posting those reviews or if he takes himself entirely seriously.

A quick search brought up a couple of serious reviews by him, though he rated himself 5/5 for tech level (including several a day before this review) for those so maybe he took a brain fart from 10/19 to 10/20?

At least he's a verified buyer even if he is a troll or idiot. Pisses me off to see either glowing or disparaging reviews of a product and the person hasn't even purchased it - especially when its a graphics card that has just been released.
