Well, for the military buff, Israel's army is awesome. It is, man for man, the best in the world. It's sad they are forced to be that way, but one can still admire it.

Yeah--isn't it mandatory to serve for 1-2 years there? Crappy deal, but I guess that is the price they pay to have a country.

its 3 btw for men a 2 for the women. its not that crappy you get a lot of disipline over there in the army way better then in the US.

It is crappy in that you have to do something against your will. (Yes I acknowledge they have no choice in the matter because of their predicament.)

Yes, because having to live in fear of your neighbors is "awesome"

I'm sure most Israeli's would rather have it such that they didn't need to worry about military action with their neighbors.

Again, only two of the five pics are of military equipment.

Well the OP seems to think that the military is a part of what makes Israel "awesome." Maybe it wasn't clear, but my point was that it isn't the need to be militarized that makes Israel awesome. Those other pictures are a good example of some of the beauty of Israel.

Yes it is quite formitable. I just see it as a necessary evil is all.

One of my good friends from my childhood is Israeli - I remember how his parents had to frequently fly back and serve in the military there. I think that is when I first realized how different this part of the world is than many other places.

On another note, I would love to see Israel in person. My old roommate went there recently as part of a birthright trip. I am considering doing that myself, just need to get the vacation time from work first!

And a military is evil why?

War is "evil." Ideally it would be nice to never have a need for a military or war. Not that it will ever be that way, but that's an ideal I think we all hold.

Sorry, not going to get dragged in to an argument about this 😛

Yea, my friend who I've known since college works for Intel... he goes to Israel a lot. He said that there are a lot of hot girls there. He invited me over.. I might just do that.... 🙂 To be fair though, we should probably have a thread about hot arab chicks just to counter act the hot israel chicks...

This is exactly what I meant. War isn't good, but it is necessary. Thanks for putting it so succinctly Amused

I think it was evil to let Hitler take over Europe and not wage war. Waging war on the Nazis was a good, sacrificial deed.

I lived in Israel and served in the military there. I go back a few times a year.
Let me just say Israel is an awesome place for many reasons.
The military is part of life there, and that's not what makes it awesome.
It's one of the things that makes it very different than life in the US, and it's what enables people to go and enjoy all the real things that makes Israel awesome.

i don't think war is evil, it is a tool that can be used or misused
war is sometimes the right tool for the job and sometimes it isn't
