Guys - let's play devil's advocate. I have a license to carry and would definitely be carrying if I was traveling on the subways late at night in Philly.
What would happened if I had used my gun? Would I have gotten in trouble if i shot the mofo?

Please. Let's not make this a a pro/anti-gun fight. If those people had guns, they'd still most likely be doing nothing. Their fear for personal safety and wish to not be hassled overrode their willingness to assist a person in trouble. Textbook definition of cowardice and selfishness.

I find it hard to believe that 10 people with guns would be afraid of one guy with a hammer.

Edit: Also, I don't believe all of the "motiveless deranged" crimes are really motiveless. My money says someone did someone's wife..

There are a million reasons why I refuse to live in Philly. That one doesn't make the top 500,000.

Human beings are selfish and disgusting creatures. Events like 9/11 will happy again, because while people talk about how brave they'll be if they encounter high-jackers on the plane, reality is they'll do nothing and sit like little bitches when a group of well trained and organized terrorists take over a plane and point their AK-47s in your face. "OMG, I'll be like 'oh no you didn't just take over my plane, I'm gonna kick your ass you terrorist POS'." Gimme a fucking break, you'll do nothing.

Seriously, What the fuck.

No amount of words can describe the inhumanity those 10 individuals showed by not trying to stop the dude.

That's pretty messed up... both the attacker and the passengers doing nothing. Stuff like that is why I don't ride SEPTA once the sun goes down. Riding the subway past midnight up in north Philly isn't exactly the best of ideas, but the poor guy probably had no choice.

How do you survive 5 minutes of a guy "digging a claw hammer into your neck and back"?
Sounds a little exaggerated, but still damn messed up...

I thought that is just how they said "hi" in Filly.

Seriously though, that is fucked up. People being beheaded on buses and now hammered on subway... Tough to get around these days.

That's what I was thinking too... 5 minutes? "received several staples and sutures and was discharged" - I could do more damage than that with a Fisher-Price hammer. Sounds more than "a little exaggerated" - the first shot should have been fatal (if he was trying to kill him.)

If you hide them in your ass, like Baked seems to have pulled his story out of, metal detectors can't see them. Especially if they use those ceramic Glock parts. :)

I found the motive...
"I'm baffled," Roach said. "He had no reason to do that. It was unprovoked. The victim was just going home from work, minding his own business, listening to his iPod."
And they said I wasn't good enough to be agent.

ive been in that situation, stopped a fight and helped the "innocent" dude. i know id help, whether i was carrying my 9mm or not. this isnt a single incident for me, ive always been that way. got myself into some hairy situations doing it, but felt it was necessary at the time. not everyone is afraid of everything, and not everyone doesnt know what to do against an armed attacker. this guy just got the bad side of the odds, being in a car full of "not knowers" and a crazy that wanted to see the color of his grey matter.

I'm guessing the kid was defending himself and tried to block the other guy's attack. May have been a five minute attack but the psycho may have only hit the kid once or twice.

a hammer or box cutter is one thing, but an AK-47? Really? You expect people to attack a man pointing an automatic weapon at them?

And there are plenty of stories about people helping/saving others, they just go unreported. "If it bleeds it leads". A story of some lunatic smashing some doods head in with a hammer is far more appealing than a couple people helping some dood.

That's Temple - much like Drexel was, the area around the campus itself wasn't terrible, but wander too far away and it gets sketchier and sketchier.

Of course, in a drunken haze I walked between Drexel and Temple many times and never had a problem, but it's still not the best neighborhood.
