Well it was better than me just coming out and saying you are a fscking liar.
I would rather have you do that then test your worn humor on me. I guess it would be funny if I was a 16 yr old virgin "pencil necked geek" as you like to call them. But, alas, that isn't the case.

My story is true. I was a scab for verizon dsl when they had a strike in 1999. They shipped off about 35 of us to work in the NOC for dsl line assignment and repair.
I personally never got in a fist fight, although, a couple guys did. They were promptly sent back home and the union guys were fined I believe. The rock fights would happen every morning at 6am when our vans rolled in the driveway. Every other week when we got payed, we paraded our pay stubs in front of the building on smoke breaks. We were there for about 6 weeks. In Norfolk, VA that is. You DO know where that is right? 😉

It was kind of a shake up at first. Although when you realize that a bunch of old toolbox men are mad because workers of immensely greater skill can be picked up so easily, it wasn't so bad.

In the end of it all though, our entire DSL division was laid off. The BA merger had to decide to keep our superior, but outsourced technical resources, or keep the union guys. The union guys won out. Once again the amazingly high standards of Bell Atlantic were kept up, and service is as bad as ever.

I just don't believe that you walked through the picket line waving your paystub in front of the Strikers. Even you wouldn't be that stupid even though you claim that you are!

It happened literally about 3 times. After that we did get reprimanded for taunting them. The taunting led to the fist fights, which led to the ejection of some of our scabs.

Stupid? No. What the wank-ass, unskilled, whiny, slow working tech. union members bitch about, is stupid.

Yeah right, when you have a temp job it's always best to excacerbate things and make if even more difficult for Management

What confuses me is why you proclaim such ignorant behavior on your part as if it is something to be proud of? Makes you look as bad as that wanker who has that site with all the pics of Scabs.

Yeah sammy didn't you know none of us can be 'tough sumbishs'.

I don't tell have the crap I encounter since even the stories I share people doubt.

I can believe what you did....something I'd do.

what are you ticked about guy? some scab slap you one day while you were striking?

Chances are strikers in a very desk oriented job aren't very tough and are probably in constant debate internally if they should get back to work or stay on strike (they are usually sheep/lemmings).

I would have harrassed them too...I don't believe the unions we have do any good but drive up prices....all unions have ulterior motives for those that organized them.

Just for the sake of asking, what percentage of voting union members are democrats?

A high majority. Just look at the endorsements that the major unions give.

Who says I'm ticked? I'm just questioning whether he really did that and was pointing out the foolishness of it if he did. The only Union I belonged to was the Carpenters Union and I know for a fact that it would be extremely foolish and detrimental to ones health to pull a stunt like that. I also know that the management of the Company that was being picketed would never put up with that type of BS by their Temp of Scab Workers as it would only make things much tougher for all concerned. Anybody that was thinking clearly would avoid all confrontations in a situation like that unless they were extremely childish and/or stupid.

Things like this make so many people think that unions are nothing but dumb thugs and criminals... they act exactly like how they're portrayed in movies.

Threatening law-abiding citizens seeking employment (nasty bad scabs!) is wrong.

I question whether you were really in a carpenters union since most union members have the mental capacity of a 3 year old and therefore wouldn't be able to use a computer efficiently enough to post here!

Why you can!

The Skill Trades Unions have an advantage over Unions like those picketing the Markets and that is their members can't be replaced by some yokel off the street. Sure there are Tradesmen who are not Union but in my Area they were few and far between and in most cases not even close to the skill level as the Tradesmen who were in the Union. I'm sure you wouldn't be able to wire a house for Electricity, read the Blueprints of a Building and lay it out for the Framers, Cut the Roof so that the Pitch is correct and what not. How about those Heavy Crane Operators? Do you think that you could just walk off the street and operate one of those Behemoths? I seriously doubt you could even maneuver a Petebone Forklift to drop a load of lumber next to where the building is going to be erected.

Yes, we as a group did lower ourselves a bit. It was not a huge situation like you may think I'm trying to portray. Stupid childish things were done on both sides. Much more so on the union side. We were a large group of young to middle aged guys being taunted by some fat scruffy old telco workers complaining about how much life and works sucks. Were we to just sit back and act humble as some fat wank in a flannel shirt is bitching about how his 17 fat trash kids can't eat because he only earns 80K a year, and only 95 with overtime.
Some of the guys I was with were just as pigheaded and jackassed as the union guys who were acting the fool.

It was an easy tech job for great pay. The standards these guys had to meet were a joke. It was like a vacation, but they are out there striking.
Detrimental to my health? I've done a lot worse, my concern is low.

As I said, some people were reprimanded on both ends, and I was not one of thoes people. We all did some silly crap here and there, but nothing beyond what anyone else would do.
We ended up out performing the union workers in every aspect. By a very substantial margin might I add.
Well, how would we not? 14 one armed monkeys with severe drinking problems could have done the daily amount of work required by the union.
I have personal against the union or the union members as a whole. Unions have their up's and down's.

🙂

It's stupid/childish but that's the fun part, and yeah you risk a mob beating your tail, but I am willing to bet Verizon employees hardly fit that mold.

However, pull that same stunt with say a Carpenter's Union, like you were in, and I bet they'd nail to literally to a cross and hang you up.

I am just getting tired I guess of whenever posts something like they got in someone's face or met a chick or [gasp!] went to a club, everyone posts "YEAH RIGHT!"

80K a year? And Verizon was able to hire people off the street to replace them? Man wtf were they strikiing for?

Well without the oportunity to se the person posting we usually take for granted it's some "Pencil necked Geek" like Sammy said. I don't know him and I assumed that. Obviously I was wrong but 9 out of 10 times I'm willing to say were are right to assume such a thing😉

Here is the proposed contract if anyone wants to read it and see what this is all about. I've read it and it seems fair to me. But maybe that's because it's more than what I get (benefits wise). I guess if you already have Platinum and someone offers Silver you'll get mad and strike.

I dunno, that's why it was funny. They were striking because of the merger. Many of them actaully had to prove themselves to keep their jobs. So they went on strike. In the meantime we, the scabs, come in and make them look really bad. It definatly did not give me a good impression of unions. It probably didn't give management any better of an impression either.

I walked away with a semi bittersweet taste in my mouth. Part of it was all the money we just made. The other part was that these clueless, slow, tech hacks easily went back to their jobs with better benefits and pay.
If anything it made me want to try and get in, so I could get paid like that for doing 1/15th the work.
On the other hand, now we see what happens when were all fat greedy bastards, the jobs go over seas.

Most of the time it is REPLACEMENT temporary employees (that rarely have the proper skills or experience) that are going to work as "scabs" not the union members themselves.

Screw all scabs and people that say stupid stuff like "Go take pictures of the union members and put them up online saying that they're known pedophiles or something."

Unions *SUCK*. Every union I have ever dealt with (6 of them) has only acted to shield thier incompetent members.
