they should definitely be banned. I've tried on numerous occasions to talk on my cell while driving and I always end up hanging up within 2 minutes. I don't care who you are. When you're on a cell phone talking, some of your attention is focused on talking to the person on the phone when it should be put towards driving and being aware of your surroundings.

not just cell phones imo, radio playing and eating and drinking coffee, and puttin gon make up should be banned while the car is in motion (driver not alloewd to do it that is).

I think his point is that a radio can be a distraction. That's true, although I find mine far less distracting than dialing numbers on my phone. As also mentioned nobody on this planet can maintain 100% attention to driving and still talk on their cellphone. I know I can't and quite clearly a lot of other people can't either. It's rather silly in fact, and though I do use mine while driving, I look forward to the inevitability of a nationwide ban of using them except for emergencies.

Sometimes I want to inflict pain on women driving suvs and talking on cellphones. That particular combination enrages me.

I definitely have to agree on the soccer moms + SUV + cell phone combo. Hell, I can barely stand the package without the cell phone involved.

The fact is, at least in my experiences, if you use some common sense, talking on a cell phone is no more distracting than talking to a person in the passenger seat or changing the radio station.

If a person lacks this common good judgement, they shouldn't be behind the wheel of a motor vehicle in the first place. Tell the states to start enforcing common sense in their issuing of a drivers license, and you will see where the problem really lies.

Well, something like driving with a cellphone is a little different. The seatbelt (along with motorcycle helmet) law is an example of a law that is trying to protect people too dumb to protect themselves. Someone driving while talking on a cell phone is potentially dangerous to me as well.

Forealz. Idiot drivers are just idiot drivers, regardless of cell phone or not. I find it ironic that it happen to be a female driver. Sorry but in NY a great deal of them are hazardous to my health.

I never really noticed the whole mom + SUV thing until I heard it on ATOT so much. It really is annoying however, and dangerous. They're bad enough drivers as it is. I think I'm capable a cell phone because I keep my calls straight and to the point. If I use a cell phone while driving, 99% of the time it'll be because I'm lost and need directions or I'm meeting someone and am looking for them, and i'll be driving really slow and cautiously at that point. Unlike many, I realize driving is a privilege, and it's one that needs to be taken away from many. Too many people lack common sense or are just bad enough drivers at it is.

For some people food, cds, kids, radio, billboards and many other things are also distracting.

I didn't say I was a cell phone user while in my car. I just don't think it is neccessary for the governmet to pass a law on this. I live in a democracy though, so I accept what laws are passed.

I dont have a problem with is as long as they're using a headset or some other device that leaves their hands free to operate the vehicle and their eyes looking toward the road.

Personally whenever I'm in the car, I just turn the speaker phone option on and lay the phone down in my lap. It seems to work well enough for whomever I'm talking to, it leaves my hands onthe steering wheel/shifter, and it's no less distracting than talking to a passenger in the vehicle.
