Watching the 'how it's made' of that intro it's kinda crazy that it was all hand done by filming actual objects. The flying HBO logo was chrome plated brass letters and all the effects were done by filming spinning lights, etc.

One thing that always amazes me is that oftentimes, when I look at a photo or video of "normal" people in the 80s, I'm struck by how in many cases, they don't look all that different from today. Compare the jump in fashion, style, etc. from the 50s to the 80s and it was much, much larger IMO.
