Rant This is what is wrong with 1) AI generated content 2) affordable housing 3)building quality these days. >> Take your pick.<<

I was on a reputable finance site when this ad popped up.

Does anything strike you as odd about this home?

Its called "The Bayliss" and features an attached car garage bay with no means of entry for a car!

Besides being a Felix post, there is no driveway to the garage. Also, who the fuck puts their surname on a goddamn sign outside a house that small?

There's a new housing development near me where all the houses are up for sale. There's lots of pictures of them and even virtual tours.
The actual development site (which is on my route to the local pubs so I walk past it often) is still a large muddy field with piles of bricks and lots of machinery.

We get this too, even with custom houses.

I can't imagine buying a house where I haven't walked around it and the neighbourhood. And got a structural survey!
Do you get the virtual staging as well? That's where the realtor adds virtual furniture to vacant house pics to show what it might look like when furnished. Sometimes, it's hilarious with stupid expensive furniture imposed on rooms with collapsed ceilings, ripped up floors, or mold covered walls.

Not sure I've seen it with houses that exist but need doing up though!

If it was a model home, typically they don't have a driveway poured until it is no longer a model and they finally sell it.

With that said, planting a magnolia and a fair amount of landscaping there was a bold choice.

Bold indeed.

Honestly I think it was just a stupid AI generated piece of crap and no one logic checked it. It went to the builders website and that home is not for sale as shown above. It looks very different and runs $500,000 in certain areas. No way in hadees would I had pay 500 grand for that. Cant even park a damn car in there. 😉

These are often badly built homes too as they're mass built only for the purpose of selling them. Everything is built down to a cost and "features" are added only to raise the value, not to actually be useful, such as making garages super tiny or even inaccessible, or adding cosmetic features like extra complex roofs that cause issues down the road.

I can't imagine buying a new house where I can't be involved in the entire construction process. I would want to be able to visit it every day to oversee the work, and give feedback and requests as I see things. But they don't even let you do that, as they technically own the house until it's built.

Cities will often give you trouble if you want to build your own house too, and in some cases may not even let you. If you go that route, even if you hire some trades, then you have more say in what's going on though as you're basically the foreman.
