This is the reason why Craigslist remains worth the trouble

Even after the headaches, snakes, flakes, spammers and scammers, you can still find almost shameful bargains.

Full system:
Thermaltake M9 case and Thermaltake SLI PSU
C2D E7200
4GB 1066 Dominator RAM 4x1GB kit
Asus P5K mobo
EVGA Geforce 9600GT

All for $30 from a man who reeked of alcohol, yech. Craigslist, consider yourself redeemed for now.

Grats on the stolen goods brah!

I got a Weber propane grill that retails for a few hundred for only $75. Almost new, no dings, minimal rust on the grates (cast iron) and even the button ignition still works. I cleaned it up when I got home (scraped the rust off) and then brushed lard on all the interior surfaces. Let it run on high for a 45 minutes to burn in and form a seasoning. Now its the best propane grill I own. Nothing sticks to the grates now, it leave nice grill marks and it burns hot. Oh and it even came with the side burner and a scale on the side that weighs the propane cylinder to show how much fuel remaining. A complete steal/deal!

That 3rd story scares me because they even took the precaution of meeting in daylight in a public place.

Note to self: *never* allow a random person on Craigslist to get in you car.

Definitely a good deal.
I don't think I'd buy either because I have some stuff like that already, but if in the market, its a bargain.

Monday I got an offer to trade my Rolex for a Hublot Big Bang. Yesterday, I asked for pictures of the back to check out the movement, he tells me it sold, which was the same day he offered me the trade. Yeah, sure it did, pretty sure he was trying to trade me a fake.

I saw a good deal for a MacBook but in the end didn't go for it, because the whole interaction just kinda seemed shady.

"Shady" describes my entire feelings toward Craigslist. I'm too big of a pussy to use it. Ebay for me.

Not to open a can of worms here...no political point, just a random observation:

It seems like it's safer to deal with people on Armslist than it is Craigslist. Yep, I think I worry less about private, no-record gun sales/trades (generally handguns, at that) than I do getting as used kitchen appliance or something off of craiglist.

Although, to be fair, it seems like the scams (read: armed robberies) are pretty obvious. I don't deal with sketchy people. Especially not to buy something like an expensive phone.

For some reason, I doubt many people have been shot while responding to ads for a blender or microwave or something.

eBay isn't much better. I once sold a broken cell phone to someone in "as is" condition, and they left me negative feedback because they found a bit of water damage in the phone when they parted it out.

Hmm... I did tell you that it was a broken phone in "as is" condition, right?

Hmmm usually the prices I see on craigslist for old used computers are way overpriced by 2-3x. You got a good deal congrats just hope it wasn't stolen.

I got this same deal last summer, Weber Genesis Silver...owner even threw in 2 tanks of LP and all their BBQ gear. Sometime you get lucky. I also unloaded a bunch of stuffs this way...much better than having yard sales.

Actually now that I think about it, I have had good experiences with CL. Not only the grill that I mentioned before but I have used CL to unload stuff I no longer needed as well as buy numerous household items. I purchased a new butcher block kitchen island that retails for $1100, scored it for $275. And so many other good deals. I have even used CL to advertise for a garage sale, forget going around the neighborhood to staple notices at street corners.

The worst experience I did have was buying a snowblower that was poorly designed. I got it for $250 for a machine that is probably $700+. This was a beefy Sears 29 inch sweep and a 9 HP engine. The engine is solid enough and the blower has power to drive the machine through some recent 3 foot high banks and launch the snow far. It looked great when the owner demonstrated it for me. Later when I actually used it, I found that the damn snow chute was secured to the body with plastic parts that snapped. What a brainless bullshit design to use plastic. Although I can't fault craigslist at all for this...
