thats where i don't like condos, if they are in a building. i don't want to buy something and have a shared hallway.
my next house is an earthship, we found one near co. springs we like. i can't live anywhere that i can look out a window and see a neighbor, hear a neighbor through a wall, or walk out my front door and see another house next to mine.

Ehh, usually I'm in the "I don't want my house to be in the city and I don't want to live in a multiunit place" but that condo is pretty nice looking. That said, I like my house and don't plan on moving.

Depends on the quality of construction. High quality condos are usually pretty sound proof. The only time I get to hear my neighbors at all is when they're doing some major construction in their unit and those are limited to certain hours only.

Never lived in a city, huh?

If you want to live downtown, and you don't have many millions of dollars, you'll be living in a condo. All it is, is an apartment that you buy, basically. Not that strange.

I will probably be buying a condo in downtown Seattle next year. My guess is NOT that one though....

I'll probably always live in condos, I simply don't want to deal with the hassles of owning a home/yard. That and any single family home close to downtown will run at least a mill unless its falling down.

I own and live in a condo. I absolutely love it, but I do wish I had a garage. I can't hear any of my neighbors because we spent enough time looking to make sure we bought quality. It is just as nice if not nicer than several of the homes we looked at and it was cheaper. There are obviously ups and downs, but there is no denying it is a nice place to live. We picked a corner unit so our front door is isolated. It's very close to work for both me and my wife, and the grocery store is less than 2 minutes walking distance away. We will move into a house when we have kids, but for now it doesn't get any better than this. No maintenance around the house, no grass to cut, easy access to everything in town, nice neighbors, a pool that I don't have to clean but still get to swim in, etc.

Apartment conversions? Yes most likely.

Purpose built condos or town homes? Nope. My last condo had lots of sound insulation, never could hear the neighbors. I had units above, below and on both sides of mine.
