I'm stuck using Internet at a different place today and I can't get over 1.8 Mbps on speedtest.net - my phone is WAY faster. :(

They started my street! Cable is partially run, it's mostly hanging on the ground but all the temp hooks are there. Another step closer to 50m/30m internet!

Have not checked out the cable vault in a while, but there was quite a lot of splicing going on in there last I checked. Probably more now. Neat seeing all this fibre coming in. So high tech!

I just realized something: I've measured faster speeds from AT&T's LTE network on my iPhone 5: over 75mbps. That's a wireless connection that's faster than a wired fiber connection.

...of course, you'll be able to have much higher speeds when the back end is upgraded. There's no question that wired fiber is definitely the superior medium. The back end matters a lot.

Yeah, but if you actually reach that for 10ish seconds, there goes your data cap. At least here anyway. They're installing the LTE stuff right now, I really don't see the point of such high speeds when it's capped at 50MB. Or think it's 100MB now. :p

I could have fibre, but apparently it's impossible to wire up this specific house.
SO I have 2/0.5 ADSL, because anything faster than that desyncs every so often.
And I work for the national ISP.

I'm on AT&T grandfathered "unlimited" -- which throttles after 5GB for 4G LTE phones.

My brother's "4G" HSPA+ phone is also grandfathered and gets throttled after 3GB (the same limit for any 3G phone). Anyway, most of my data is just streaming music and web browsing. I've come very close to 5GB occasionally, but I think I still haven't experienced throttling.

That looks a lot like mine. Except your upload is way faster, and so is your ping! My ping is about 150ms.

I'd pay $100/m for 1.5mb/s WIRED internet. My current internet is about $50 and 3G wireless. (Thankfully its unlimited data)

On a side note damn you all the people with fiber. I pay $70 for 16/3 Comcast Business and that's the best that I can get. The only other alternative is 768Kbps AT$T DSL. I hate tele/cable monopoly...

Congrats! I have 30/10 cable and pretty happy with that. I can get up to 200mbps with cable here but for some reason no fiber. Im in Montreal. I wouldnt pay for anything over 30 though at the current prices. My internet bill is still over $50/mo after tax with a reseller. Would be $70+ with the incumbent provider.

Going from 8 to 50 is indeed a cool upgrade but I found that much of the internet has a long way to go before even being able to use that kind of speed on most hosts.

$60 a month for 20gb , extra blocks of 20gb for an additional $20

50mb, weak ...

I am getting my fiber installed next week, 1gb up and 1gb down for $99.99 per month. It'll be fiber to the building and tapped into a GB cisco switch. It's in a lock box so I can't look at it, but mmmmmmmm, so good.

Who is your ISP? I am Prior Lake and we get Fiber from Integra, but since i do not pay another $30 my bandwidth is only 30 down/2 up instead of 30/30. Although for the first 6 months i was getting closer to 60/30.

I think they're finally installing fibre to home in my neighbourhood. They've been digging and installing conduits. Once again though the service is expensive and has low data caps. At 50mb/s, Bell's 175GB cap would be blown through in no time.
