I went on a color printing binge (pix, etc) last week and ran out of color ink a couple days ago . . .

"I'll get ink later," I said . . . "I only need to print black text now"

But my stupid printer won't print ANYTHING if even ONE color is out! Anyway to get around this, or do I have to make a late night trip to OfficeMax?

I thought there was a way around it in the setttings..

Either way, you have to admit the RX500 aside from the fax ( or lack there of ) is one of the best multifunction printers out there.

Situations like this makes me glad I have 2 printers...

A Laser for my normal print jobs-- Quick, no ink smudging, lasts a loooong time on one toner cartridge.

An inkjet for the rare times I have to print color.

If I was the OP's shoes, I'd pick up one of those $99 laser printers in addition to a new inkjet cartridge..

Hi, All older model Epsons, about 800 Stylus and back, were easy. Just unlatch the empty cartridge lift it slightly, drop it back and relatch the lid. Now the printer thinks you have just put in a new cartridge and all is fine until you can get a new cartridge. Newer models have a "Chip" attached to the fron of the cartridge that has nothing to do with how much ink is in the cartridge, but only times it like the old ones. It will shut you down permanently. There is a free program available that will reset the chip and let you continue to use it or let you refill it. I can't remember the actual name of the program. Try searching for EPSON CHIP RESET. Luck, Jim

It's not stupid. It happens all the day, all over the world.
no matter you got the expensive printer, cheap one. they rip you off on ink. simple as that.
try bulk ink system. save your money.
