This is strange, is no one playing civ3 ?

<<I've been waiting for a review, and my blasted 8500 from dell. Is it a 2d game, or is a 3d card a must? >>

There are already about 5 reviews out there. Adrenaline valt, gamespy, gamespot, I believe IGN, and others have them.

Shaka, im on a celeron 633 laptop and i fouldn it to be a lil laggy too, but what i did was go into preferences and turn on quick move, so the units dont animate.

Anyways, im sorta disapointed with this Civ3... it seems to take FOREVER to get anywhere in it advanced wise. Somthing is up with the way research points are collected cuz in one game i had 3:1 city advantage against hte next top player and he was BEATING me in the reserach race, but his cities wernt much larger htan mine nor did he have more libraries or anything... in the older civs you could "FEEL" the technology advancement when you had lots of cities.

Also, if you are on a continent, you are STUCK unless you build the lighthouse first. Otherwise you have to wait till the middle ages time period to get the right piece of technology that lets you build somthing better than the galley (trieme). There are 3 'types' of water in the game now. Shore water (very light blue), shallow water (medium blue) and then ocean water (deep blue).

Trieme (err i mean galley) can only go into shore water
Whatever the 2nd ship is, i forget, can only go into shore and shallow water.
then you get the frigate i think and hten it can fially go into ocean squares.

Unlike in the previous civs you could force our trieme into the deeper water and 'risk' having it sink in an effort to find another island around you.

CANT DO THAT IN THIS GAME

argh...

it wasnt untill friggen 1400 AD that i think my civ finally broke off from the island.

I also liked how the govenor feature and settler orders were in Alpha Centauri... LOTS of options for your teraformers (settlers), such as: Only build roads, only build forests, only irrigate, only this only that... it really came in handy. Now, in this one, the stupid settlers build mines on grassy plains when they should have built a damn irigation canal, and stuff like that...
makes me mad :|

So overall after playing this game for about 3 days straight, i find it REALLY slow moving.. the pace seems quite subdued.

the culture thing is 'neat' but doesnt really play too much into my game play. I wish more buildings gave you culture points cuz really the only ones in the early game is the temple and library. Why couldnt the granary provide 1 culture point or somthing? Cuz everyone builds a granary first when a new town is settled.

anyways those are just a few of the things i have noticed. I still think compared to alpha centari its lacking in customization, even preferences.
