This is strange. I'm starting to get a lot of returned mail that I DIDN'T SEND...

But it's marked as having been sent from one of my Email accounts.

Can someone hijack a Email account and use it to send Emails so it looks like they came from you?😕

yeah they can hijack it. Change your password or get a different email addy, odds are if you are getting tons of returned emails the hijacker is using your addy to send out spam. That, or your computer has a virus and is using your email to send out spam.

I believe that the headers can be changed so it looks like it was mailed from you. Then when filters reject the mail, it all bounces back (which just makes problems worse).

Sure, but I don't think they will come back to you as non-delivered if they were spoofed.

Yes they will. You can use any email address as in the "from:" field when sending an email via SMTP.

would it be against rules to link a website where you can send emails with a custom "from: " or would that be against rules
(it explains the process, but provides a form for ease )

I got a few that I didn't send, but they were spam that was not really sent from anywhere. Same as the RE:etc spam I get sometimes, which obviously isn't real.

Yup. It happened to me a few years ago on my hotmail account. One day, I opened up my inbox to find it at capacity with over 300 returned messages. The next day, I had about 200 more. I had to set keyword filters on "Delivery Failure" and such to prevent them from filling my inbox. Then I turned off the filters one day and the problem was gone.

Some of the spammers use this trick to get around filters. The filters think you sent it, and allow it through. quite annoying.
