Or since he has the money to burn, he can just get a 3500+ and oc it to 3800+/53 speeds and then up to say 55 or w/e when he feels like it.

Yea I was thinkin I may do that since socket 939 will be a standard, at least for a while. That way with some of that saved money I can put it towards funner things, like my car

Um, but why not save where you can? Both are reliable companies are they not? And I have a very large budget, which is why I am considering this chip, but just because you have a large budget does not mean you should just squander it away.

What can you get with a dollar? ... In your case a dollar could have got you the system you wanted, when you wanted it, and without all the headaches, sounds like a good deal to me.

If your time and trouble isn?t worth 1 dollar then I guess you made the right choice

I get the feeling you do not understand something I typed... I dunno. Either way I will proabably end up with an AMD 3500 or 3800+ (3500+ looking better deal though)

Such as ?

The P4 EE costing more ?

The P4 EE being slower in most task cept encoding?

The NOT unlocked multipler on the P4 EE?

Another thing, Intel will put out speed grades in 200 Mhz Jumps, So Does AMD, and we all 200 Mhz jump o n a P4 is not the same as a 200 Mhz jump on a A64/FX.

Wrong. The FX-53 is not only $240 less money it whips a 3.4EE like a red headed step child. Really bad in things like winrar, visual studio and games. read this http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/20040601/socket_939-27.html

A look at the benchmark results reveals that there are only few areas where Intel dominates. While the synthetic benchmarks often speak in favor of Intel's 3+ Gigahertz chips, there are only few real-life applications left that run better with Intel inside: audio/video encoding and some rendering applications. Games and multimedia applications have already been a domain of AMD's Athlon64, and the new Socket 939 processors underscored that fact.

However I agree they are both a waste of money..some more a waste than other and it anit the greens.;)

Most of the people here are suggesting a 3500+ and I agre with them. Get a 3500+ instead, put the money towards good memory and you also might want to think about watercooling or some serious air cooling. I've heard there new A64s overclock pretty good so assuming you have good cooling you would probably be able to squeeze 2.7ghz out if that baby ;)

I am getting the 3500+ and spending the extra 300 dollars in my pocket for water cooling so I can overclock my 3500+ to 3800+/FX-53 speeds and put a waterblock on my new x800xt and overclock it and have it run cooler. Quieter too.

I guess I wasn't sarcastic enough XD I was pretty much saying it is stupid to pay that much for a processor. I'd go with a 3400+ over an FX-53 or EE shearly because performance gains are not worth the pricetag. I was saying that I'd buy a P4 EE for $200 more, for something that is slower, as you all said. I was joking, I manage my money and read reviews. No need to forward me to a review, I've read em all!

Anyway, P4 and A64 are where the value is at. Not EE or FX-51/53

That is a good idea and i may just do that. Do you recomend a custom built water cooling system or do the kits put out by thermaltake and coolermaster do ok?

ALso speaking of cooling, I was already planning on buying a Cooler Master Hyper 6 heatsink, along with a case full of vantec tornado fans for some extreme air cooling. Would this perform to what I need? I know I would not be able to put a waterblock (obviously with only an air cooled system) on my X800 XT but I could still overclock my CPU some.

Thanks for all the info, good stuff.

Well, you will obviously reach a higher overclock on water, but IMO the difference isn't drastic enough to warrant spending all that money on a watercooling setup. On top of that, I am extremely apprehensive about putting water inside my computer; it's too risky IMO. Especially if your rig costs in excess of $2000.

With good air cooling I'm sure you will be fine. I would get the best HSF that Thermalright makes; I think it's the 947 right now.

The guy was interested in an FX-53...do you really think a 3200+ could match it when overclocked? I really don't think so. It's missing a memory controller, plus it's on a "dead" platform. The 3500+ is the better choice considering the performance the OP is expecting IMO.
