or think of it this way.. when are you going to upgrade again after this?? Why not get dual bartons - that'll hold you for a year or two, then go a head and by the FX setup when it's at a reasonable price. This way, you get a lot more for your money.
Or since he has the money to burn, he can just get a 3500+ and oc it to 3800+/53 speeds and then up to say 55 or w/e when he feels like it.

Considering a $800+ CPU purchase and trying to save $1 just don?t go together. Sounds to me like you need to be more realistic about your purchase in relation to your budget.
Um, but why not save where you can? Both are reliable companies are they not? And I have a very large budget, which is why I am considering this chip, but just because you have a large budget does not mean you should just squander it away.
What can you get with a dollar? ... In your case a dollar could have got you the system you wanted, when you wanted it, and without all the headaches, sounds like a good deal to me.
If your time and trouble isn?t worth 1 dollar then I guess you made the right choice

A look at the benchmark results reveals that there are only few areas where Intel dominates. While the synthetic benchmarks often speak in favor of Intel's 3+ Gigahertz chips, there are only few real-life applications left that run better with Intel inside: audio/video encoding and some rendering applications. Games and multimedia applications have already been a domain of AMD's Athlon64, and the new Socket 939 processors underscored that fact.

...You can justify spending $1,000.00 for a cpu that is out performed by something that is $200 cheaper? I want whatever drugs you're on...

Such as ?
The P4 EE costing more ?
The P4 EE being slower in most task cept encoding?
The NOT unlocked multipler on the P4 EE?
Another thing, Intel will put out speed grades in 200 Mhz Jumps, So Does AMD, and we all 200 Mhz jump o n a P4 is not the same as a 200 Mhz jump on a A64/FX.

Most of the people here are suggesting a 3500+ and I agre with them. Get a 3500+ instead, put the money towards good memory and you also might want to think about watercooling or some serious air cooling. I've heard there new A64s overclock pretty good so assuming you have good cooling you would probably be able to squeeze 2.7ghz out if that baby![]()

That is a good idea and i may just do that. Do you recomend a custom built water cooling system or do the kits put out by thermaltake and coolermaster do ok?
ALso speaking of cooling, I was already planning on buying a Cooler Master Hyper 6 heatsink, along with a case full of vantec tornado fans for some extreme air cooling. Would this perform to what I need? I know I would not be able to put a waterblock (obviously with only an air cooled system) on my X800 XT but I could still overclock my CPU some.
