LOL

I have tried to use Yahoo maps 3 times this summer and it seems to only know th biggest highways and so.... thats the way it takes you. It has no concept of smaller, quicker roads.

I'm going back to MS Streets and Trips

I never use those online services unless I have to. I have MS Mappoint 2002. Awesome program... never used MS Streets and Trips. Wonder how they're different and why MS put out 2 different proggies for the same purpose?

Lol.

I used yahoo maps a few years ago to give directions to friends who were visiting. At one point the map suggested they "turn right on un-named road."

Hmm I guess this page explains the differences: http://www.microsoft.com/mappoint/

Strange that I don't use Mappoint for what it states (trends?!). You can just as easily enter a route and ask it to calculate, etc. for you. Type in an address and it points it out to you. Cost of trip by cost of gas, mileage, etc. Even update construction info via the internet. Maybe it's a more powerful version of Streets and Trips?

I use mapblast. It's fairly accurate until you get into places with lots of smal parallel streets then it gets confused.

The worst problems I've had with yahoo maps is for San Francisco driving. A few times the Yahoo maps have told me to turn right on a street, then when i get to the street I find out it's a one way (like 90% of the streets in SF), and it's going the opposite way the Yahoo map told me to turn.

A problem you're always going to come across with these route calculators is that they'll indeed choose the shortest route for you or the quickest route... meaning: (ie. they'll get you off the highway for 1 exit and then back on if that'll save you time... or if it's logically shorter).

LOL.

I use it around LA and have NEVER had a problem with it.
