I know my parents are forcing me up at 6am today, and I'm still farting around on the AT forums at 3am!

Someone shoot me!

cause my parents are making me look for a job!

There telling me "you gotta get up early and start knocking on the doors if you want a job"

meanwhile, I'm thinking "fsck you... the stores dont even open till 8 at the earliest"

so I tell them I dont want some piss poor job moving boxes. I want to work somewhere where I will actually learn something (I just applied at a local ISP). They just dont stop bugging me!

damn parents. why do they gotta be parents, and not be cool and let me sleep in till 3pm?!?!

Dam,

I'm 18. I obviously need (and want) a job, and I have been looking for one. I think my problem is that I think too highly of myself. I refuse to work at places like McDonalds. I want a semi-decent job, but I think its eventually gonna hit me that without university education, I dont mean jack-sh!t to anyone out there :(

BiggieN,

I live in Canada. We already had thanksgiving, so tomorrow is not a special day here. (although I wish it was)

as a former retail manager of many years, don't go bothering the shops that early in the morning. A manager has enough other things on their mind at 8:00am. Wait until at least mid-morning.

i went applying when it settled down so that a manager can give me an semi-pre-interview so that they would have me fresh on their mind. i think the best time would be 2-3? right after lunch.

BiggieN is right. Mid afternoon is best.

also, do a bit of research. Know what the store/shop sells or does. Don't just walk in and say "Hi, my name is Stefan, I'd like a job. I'm a hard worker"

SELL YOURSELF!

Yup Ausm...

I was babysitting by 12, a floor guard at a skating rink at 15, and working with the veterinarian by the time I was 16.

Maybe it was because my parents didn't have much money, and they were spending what little they had to send my 3 older siblings to college? And not just any colleges... the very best that my brother and sisters could manage to get in, which generally meant far away and more expensive.

18 years old & you don't have a job? That's really sad, I can see why they're pushing you. I've been paying $400 a month rent to my parents since I was 17, so I don't have too much pity for you.

at 15 I was on my own with no money, my own alcoholic parents put me out. Luckily I got a job on a farm that same day with room and board, for the summer. Then I had to leave, so I took the bus to the city, spent the night in a motel and then rented my own 1 room App. I had to buy my own food, everything. I had 1,800 save up from the farm job. That same week I got work at Mickeys :) it served two purposes hehe. Took some computer courses at night and the rest is history. but I still did it all on my own. Thank God my wife is loaded hehe, I smell retirement soon.
