So i wake up to find that my computer has 524KB free on my Video Drive(94GB partition)

Turns out I had some duplicate recordings on there. I use this PC as a HTPC/PVR
In addition, i didn't set the automated resompression settigns correctly, so everything got backed up. Basically I have to recompress 50GB of mpeg2 into divx. Worst off, the setting that I was using DID recompress SOME files, except they did so @ a Sh!!ty windows media 171kbps and they (thankfully ) didn't erase the source files, which clogged up the drive, and made me miss a recording of "oliver!" on TCM:(

Yeesh.

By the way, I have "cahepele's show in Highquality Divx if anyone wants it, (it is 300MB)
By tommorow afternoon these should be encoded for later viewing
:D
-Rebecca
-Lawrence of Arabia(I just saw this one and loved it)
-Rain Man
-The Birds
-In the heat of the Night
-THe last Emperor
-Ben Hur
-An American In Paris
-Driving Miss Daisy
-Grand Hotel
-CImmaron
-Chariots of Fire
-ROCKY

=~80GB

All I can say is that TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES ROCK!
Too bad I didn't have the "beyond TV "software sooner:(

EDIT:

60GBof mpeg2 is now 4GB of HIGH-QUALITY DIvx

Might want to take out the part about distribution... slightly less than legal stuff is banworthy here.
(Unless it's legal for some reason, copyrights ran out or something)

Netflix DVD > cable

I'm about to cancel my movie channels since I've gotten very annoyed by the station logo bugs, talking over the end credits, pan-n-scan, and lack of DVD extras. Plus digital cable has inferior picture and audio quality compared to DVD.

WTF am I supposed to do? I am NOT home at ALL sometimes, and miss COUNTLESS sets of shows. This PVR things i fantastic. THe reason I am encoding them is so I can continue to use my machine for recording daily without running out of space. Things as special as Lawrence of Arabia I might keep, but I usually delete everything else after I watch it or after it automatically expires.

As for the distribution, I am having trouble defining how "helping people out who missed the show" is different in this thread compared to the "chapelle show thread" I am not stating or restating the legality of it. I am merely saying that people have helped me out by sharing a recording or too so I don't have to wait a year for the DVD or the reruns which are almost always at the most inconvenient of times.

Damn right. I used to love them, except right now money is tight because of school and all, so I have haven't the money.

As for the Pan and Scan, I say watch Turner Classic Movies. They sometimes show fairly recent movies, and almost ALL of them are in widescreen.

AS for other channels, the Pan and Scan situation is ridiculous.

Finally, remember that digital cable offers FEATURES and some digital channels. THat usually does not mean JACK concering your analog channels, as they are still being recieved via analog. BAsically, any special channels such as HBO, stars, and PPV are higher quality with DD sound, but otherwise it is the same ole same ole.

Obviously for that TIVO is the better option as it can control the tunning and record two shows at a time.

The "Beyond TV" software is meant more for analog and digital cable. Obviously it would work as in it would record programs on a set channel, but it wouldn't eb able to change the channel, limiting its capabilities outrageously.

Basically, I have it set to record ER(AWESOME:D ), some History channel shows, and TCM movies which I watch when I get some time.

Actually the service is available here but it costs too much $$. Using my HTPC is just cheaper for me.
