In the meantime, we can stop subsidizing it.

Something to think about... Two communities exist in different areas of a town. Both communities are identical, and have equal incomes, enough to support perhaps 2-3 kids per household.

One community averages 1-2 kids per household over 50 years, the other community averages 5-6.

After 50 years, which community is richer on average? Which community is poorer on average? Why?
