This Is Not A Good Sign

On a whim I decided to go to a Midnight showing of Doomsday. I asked the girl at the ticket window how many seats were left, and she said, "All of them." True, this was about thirty minutes ago and it is still forty minutes until showtime, but I figured at least ONE other person would have purchased tickets by now.

Are there bad reviews out for it? I haven't read any reviews of it at all.

No reviews I could find after a quick look around ... even Rotten Tomatoes has nothing up for it yet.

Commercials I saw on TV for it looked pretty bad though & gave very little clue as to what its about.

Seemed pretty revealing.

Virus/disease outbreak occurs. Contained Resident Evil style by sealing everyone inside city. Time passes and the virus manages to get out, everyone except those immune die in city. They need to go back into the city to find out how people survived and if their survival holds a cure for the disease. City becomes it's own crazy world. Hot chick in black spandex enters scene.

Actually it sounds great to me. No noisy fucks to put up with in the theater.

Bad: There are others here to see the movie now, some seeming to be the noisy white-trash type that love to offer commentary to the characters on screen. Thankfully there are not many overall, so they should be easy for management to pick out and eject.

Good: Management already came through and kicked out some theatre-hoppers and underage kids.

No one bought tickets yet because no one (except you apparently) buys tickets 1:10 in advance at the movies.

You went to the movie over an hour early?

I stopped and bought tickets while en route to get something to eat. Our theatre is notorious for having lines of a hundred or more people backed up at the window with minutes until showtime, but having only one person there selling tickets. If you don't know what kind of turn-out to expect for a movie, buying your tickets early isn't a bad idea.

Yes, they do. Apparently just not for this movie. People can buy them in advance through Fandango, and the theatre will also sell advance tickets through the window if they think the movie is going to have a lot of viewers. You could buy tickets through the box office for about a month in advance when Spider-Man 3 came out.

Where did I say I saw a trailer?

I forked over $6.50 and found it entertaining.

it reminds me of escape from new york and mad max

It reminded me of that as well. The car chase at the end had some parts that were direct rip-offs from the one in The Road Warrior, but it was so blatant I would hope that it was meant as a tribute.

This virus doesn't turn people into zombies, vampires, et cetera. It is just very contagious and very lethal. If you survive, it modifies your fashion sense to that of a Punker, and your interpersonal relations skills to those of Alkemyst.

The main character and some other troops are sent over the wall to find out how the humans that are now showing up on the spy satellites survived, as the virus has now crossed the containment wall and if there is a cure, they need it.

The main character is a walking cliché. The hard-ass on the outside, tormented and grief-ridden on the inside type. Thankfully, they ignore that aspect once they get the plot set up, except for a brief moment near the end.

The movie is one of those where at times you're sitting there saying, "WTF, did they just do that?" Other times you are laughing because the violence is so over the top and ridiculous, as happens in zombie movies.

The car chase scene towards the end was definitely one of the more memorable in recent history. :D

Don't bother with this movie if you're expecting high drama. If you like Mad Max or Escape From New York movies with some degree of camp, you may like it. Regular action movie junkies may not, because of the lack of seriousness given to some aspects of it.

These kind of movies are sort of a guilty pleasure for me to watch, but they aren't worth going to the theatre for IMO.

If you go to a Regal Cinemas to see it, it is a non-starred attraction. I was able to use one of the discount red passes that cost $6.50 to see it, even though it was an after-matinée hours showing of a new movie.

My options are "Ghetto movie theater" with a plank of wood and half inch of foam covered in greasy old upholstery for seats, or a shopping center with an upscale theater where I have to pay for parking, too.

So yeah, it's either $9, or I can't sit through the whole thing.

For that price the seats better scratch my balls or something.
