Which word of four letters can be added to the front of the following words to create other English words?

CARD BOX CODE BAG HASTE

I looked up the answer but this prevented me to completing a 30... can you guess the answer (it is part of an IQ "quiz" by Mensa).

It's not really fair because the Americans do not use 3 or arguably 4 of the words created...

Some of their abbreviations are not here in the US...

Postcard = common
Postbox = common
Postcode = never heard of this word. Call it PO Box.
Postbag = this is not a real word. Seriously, what?
Posthaste = not common but present in some literature

post is the first word i thought of (looked at -haste and immediately thought of it). although it seems strange with the words postbox, postcode, and postbag, it's the only word that I can think of that ends in -haste.

I don't think Mensa is relegated to Americans only.

I guess not, but they should have warned me lol.

Next thing you know they'll ask you what the six letter word for the common usage to describe the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum is..... and I will be like what?

post code? you've never heard of someone asking for your postal code? (zip code?)

postbag is more commonaly known as a mailbag.

Yea, post was the only one I could come up with for haste, but the other words invalidated it immediately in my mind... heh.

there' a reason you're not in mensa then.

if you looked at postcard and immediately invalidated it... then you're an idiot.

Mensa = HIGH IQ... not morons.

Uh, yea... the other THREE invalidated it even if 2 were possibilities. I'm not Mensa material, I failed one question. :hmm:

You ran out of time because of one question? Definitely not Mensa material. You should have had 10 minutes left over. Those quizzes are easy.

Only one of those words could possibly be described as "common" in the United States.

Post card
post box
post code
post bag
post haste

Post card is common. You mail them from exotic locations like Paris, Texas.
Post box is common. You get your mail from the post box.
Post code is common. Newman says they're meaningless.
Post bag I can see not being that common, but it's immediately obvious what it is.
Post haste is common. You need something done post haste.
