yesterday guy at least 30% bigger than me going faster than me.

I do that sometimes.

Method: Split into many tiny pieces, and then re-combine (ideally somewhere quiet). As you re-combine, leave ONE tiny blob. Your HUGE blob will travel faster (than usual), as it tries to keep up with your tiny blob, which can be a huge distance, from the massive one. Letting you create traps, by getting chased by enemy blobs who think they are massively bigger than you.

tl;dr

The big blob(s) seem to travel faster, when you have tiny blob(s) as part of your entity.

yeah, but no. i accept that the bug you just described can exist, but this was not the case.
had a quiet day at work so a lot of time went into this, and although i dont want to be "that guy" (there's plenty of idiot hackusers in my FPS games), every lobby today had at least a hacker in it. was thinking "i should totally shadowplay this" but then i realized A) im not on my home PC, and B) who cares/who could i report this to.

this 'gunna be worse than combat arms when it came out. hackerfest.

sad because the game itself is a interesting piece of psychological study. hiding next to really big guys because you know they won't split to eat you, not worth it. running towards a tastier target when chased because people will change their mind.

also, i hate teams. sorry but i think it's just like cheating.

oh btw. if you have a chance, try different servers. different regions behave very differently. russians are way more aggressive, even when it's a bad decision, they will split.

I don't think it is a bug (but it could be). If I did it to you, you could easily NOT spot it, because the 2nd tiny blob, would/could be so far from my big blob, that it does NOT appear on your screen.

Yes, I also dislike teams. Once I notice that some people are teaming up. I find it best to then stick to the other side of the game field.

E.g. I attack a team member, who is much smaller than me. As I am about to hit/eat them, their team mate almost instantly fills the team member up, with lots of 'W' keystrokes. So they end up being bigger than me, and I get eaten, instead.

I've tried most/all of the other servers. It is interesting, how the game play tactics, seems to vary, somewhat, between them.

Some of them (especially the China/similar ones), are sometimes, WAY too laggy, to be practically playable, for any length of time.

I like to lay traps. By making myself about 133/134 mass, and then 100% totally covering a (small) sharp cog wheel (I.e. It looks like it is just your blob, and it is stationary. The sharp cog wheel is NOT shown on the screen anymore. Unless a minute or so passes, and your blob shrinks over time. You can easily feed again, every 2 minutes). Then freezing myself, in the same position (centre the mouse).

If successful, an unsuspecting, much bigger guy tries to eat me. A millionth of a second (slight exaggeration), BEFORE they hit/eat me, I move in the opposite direction. (Too late, you get eaten, too quick to move, they spot the trap and have time to react, so best to get the timing right).
They end up split into lots of tiny pieces, and are highly confused/dazed. So you can immediately jump in and absorb their small pieces.

I did that (recently), and 100% absorbed a much bigger player. I.e. They were eliminated from the game. The smaller pieces, can be enough, to let you handle the remaining bigger blobs of their split.

--------------------------------------------------------

I have tried your "Japanese" tip ('Japan' user name), with great success. Becoming number 1 on the server, in a fairly short space of time.

It is amazing, how many people, think it is MUCH smaller than it really is, because of the way a user named "Japan", is drawn.
The developers may have noticed, as it might be drawn slightly differently (more noticeable) now. Or I am imagining things.

yup. the fact that japan is drawn with a small red center and a white outer layer, on a white background. people occasionally think you are the smaller red center, more so if on a bad monitor/tv. doesn't work as well when you are huge, but it makes it easier to get big.

i love your trap idea.

i do the opposite (and i have actually died to someone who did this to me today, lol);
when small enough to just barely hide totally under a spike, just freeze there and wait for someone to "hide" under it.

I found the idea (how to do it), on another forum (or similar), while searching for more details about this game. It is AMAZING fun (I literally laugh out loud), when the big excitement, of a big player, who thinks they are about to eat me, gets split and fully eaten, themselves. Before they even realize what has happened (maybe).

I might have tried that. But I get fed up with waiting for someone to fly through it, so I usually don't do that. But I like hiding there, when chased by a bigger player, who is too big to enter the spikes, safely.

I find it far too fiddly to try and align up the W, and shoot through the spikes, enough times to try to split a much bigger guy, so usually don't bother. And if you mess up (which is highly likely if I try it), you have wasted a significant part of your hard earned mass.

The overall playing skill level, seems to have gone up a lot, since the early days of this game. Also its popularity means that there is often lots of players, crowding the Universe. So it is much harder to get to number 1 position, now, in my opinion.

The better player base, since so many people have now learned how to play this game in a better fashion, (I mostly play on the European server), seems to take me out by splitting at just the right time. So it seems to take ages to get to even medium size, these days.

I'm pleased about it really, because it has considerably reduced the amount of time I spend playing it, now. As I keep on getting eaten, and then get fed up, and stop playing.

This game is a bit like Tetris, in that when it came out, one wonders, why nobody has created a similar game, already.

i'm curious as to how they manage to make any money, to upkeep the servers.

For every dot you eat they get a internet penny. ;)

I would assume the ad's they use but I know at least one add-on replaces them with their own they have complained about.

On a side note we should use the add-on's that let you join the same server as they allow those and see how many atot references we can get going at once.

I've gotten into this game lately but it seems like today I'm playing and the merging timer seems to have doubled... which will get me to stop playing as it was long enough before. Anyone noticed this? Not waiting a full 60 seconds even when small to recombine... waste of time.
