Ejecting my mass into the green blobs isn't working. When others do it, their mass turns into a green blob that hits and splits me. When I do it, the green blob just absorbs my mass.

You need to be a certain size before you can use either ability but really "w" is really only good after you have split and need to make one guy large enough to combine the smaller ones.
Otherwise you should start out small.

Managed to hold rank 1 for over 15 mins before getting bored. My strategy was to pick a corner in the grid and kinda remember where it is from the position of the green blobs. Then basically keep trapping people in that corner. Strategic splitting helps a lot too whether eating smaller blobs or running away from bigger blobs when starting out.

Favorite thing to do in this game is to go near a guy way bigger than me who wouldn't bother with me and blast him with the spiky blob because I know he's thinking "Oh, wtf!" I did that with one large guy and completely fed him to an even larger one just for grins.
Seeing a lot of f**kin newbs tonight, guys who managed to get relatively large and split to take me out when I'm pathetically small.
HAHAHA! Best way to play the game is to troll the giants. Twice now I've been near a giant who was near another one and I've shrunk the hell out of one with the spiked blobs, then the other just toasted him. In one case I smacked up a giant so another right next to him went for the kill, but he got too close to my green spikes, so i got the seconod guy instead and the first guy, still cut up, then ate up the other one. The dying giant's final move was to split and take me, as tiny as I was.
Damn this game. Bed time.

Yeah gameplay is becoming somewhat degenerative with people deliberately going after the large guys despite them not really being a huge threat, having said that the little orbs that come off the giants can be a route to growing big very fast. I like that the big guys can find it hard to stay big, but also there doesn't appear to be a counter to the green orbs other than risk splitting when one is fired at you to mitigate the damage.
I also didn't notice you slowly decrease in mass over time which speeds up the bigger you get, turn on the mass option to see your exact mass, it means you can't just farm the single cells to keep growing past a certain size, around about 500-600 i'd say, you just lose it too fast, you need to grow by splitting.
I think maybe you should be able to hold W for a while and grow a blob you want to fire and use that to kill the green orbs when you're large, that would be a good balance I feel.

I am missing something, shooting W into a spiky blob does nothing for me, shooting w at another blob does nothing either.
Man, very addicting lol. Really hard to stay big! Once you get to a certain size, you start taking risks and they either pay off huge or destroy you.
