Hey everyone,

I'm having this incredibly annoying problem. I'm currently running Windows XP and am a subscriber to Bell Sympatico High Speed DSL service. My problem is that when I boot Windows I'm forced to wait for at least 60 seconds staring at my desktop while the computer goes about it's business and the hourglass gradually drives me to the brink of insanity.

Basically, I have to wait at least a minute for the system to stop dickin' around. I'm not even able to press the Start button. It has something to do with my DSL because when I unplug my NIC from the modem it boots perfectly. Is there some sort of service I should be disabling or something along those lines to stop this from happening?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

check this out

Even if this particular hint doesn't work, this has been a very helpful site for me.

(Look at the dynamic (ADSL thingy)

Do you have your PPPoE configured correctly in WinXP? Did you install any special software for your DSL (used for dialing into your DSL - PPPoE)? If so, remove it since it is not really needed because WinXP has built-in support for that type of connection.

Also, if you don't use MSN Messenger, remove it!

To remove MSN Messenger open the RUN box and copy/paste this in there: (make sure you are in admin)

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

AWWW BABY YES! Thanks so much for that link Insidious, it totally solved my problem (and others!). What a wonderful resource that site is, you were quite right.

Thanks to you as well for replying DocDoo, I very much appreciate it.

My system boots in a total of 23 seconds now as opposed to approximately 87 seconds before. Wonderful!

Yay, thanks again!
