I understand that the car is on a circular track and it is tethered by a cable to a post in the centre of the track. The bloke at the start gets the car moving by swinging the tether around.

How the hell does the car continue to accelerate after he stops swinging the tether? I presume the car must have some sort of engine or electric motor.

Then why does it need a helping hand at the start?

And what is the point??
