Didn't know what to call it or how to describe it without giving it away. Interesting comes to mind as well. Mostly funny. I doubt that guy was serious about his "idea".

So basically they took dragons den and changed the name. Good work their people, very original.

You act like this is something new.

I know but it never fails to amaze me, why not just call it dragons den? I know it isn't the best name ever but the whole shark tank idea seems like some studio exec got off his head on coke one night and came up with the idea and nobody had the balls to tell him it sucked.

Do they think changing the name will make it harder for people to realise they had no creative input in the shows make up.

This show *is* Dragons' Den the US version. They just changed the name to Shark Tank for the US much like the UK's Pop Idol became American Idol in the US.

Edit: Oh and apparently the show originated in Japan, where the potential investors are called 'Tigers'. Also, they're called "Lions" in the Finland and Romanian version of the show.

I of course got the info from its Wiki page:
"The contestants are usually product designers or service operators who have what they consider to be a viable and potentially very profitable business idea, but who lack funding and direction. They pitch their idea to five rich entrepreneurial businesspeople, the eponymous "dragons" (or "tigers" in the original Japanese show, "sharks" in the U.S. and Israeli versions and "lions" in Finland and Romania)."

I watched every single episode and I noticed the Sharks are up for more "dramatics" and not so "generous" this season.

What most viewers don't know is that some of the business owners were "called" or "seeked" out by the producers to come on the show. Also the producers/owners of the Shark Tank show automatically get 7% equity of your company and or 5% of ALL sales/profit = once you mention your brand/company/product on the show... and this is not even including what the sharks' deal yet...

I find it funny they fluff some business terms on the show and actually either "rip a new a-hole" or "take advantage" of the business owners naiveness...:colbert:

About 2 years ago my EX GF told me to get on Shark Tank... I told her "hell no!"

There you go so why would they name it dragons den especially if it's not originally from there.

Sharks tank is a lot better as dragons den sounds like something a D&D player would come up with.

Not to mention naming a similar show the same as another one from another country is annoying when doing a search for it.

I'm a bit unclear on this show. Do they just bring mentally retarded people on the show to make asses of themselves? This show exists in just about every country on earth in their own language but the version above is so out there that it is bordering on just pure comedy with no actual inventions.

It should be noted even if someone says they can make a car get 100mpg on single gallon of gas and can prove it, they will never make it on the air as abc and sony does not want any inventor that may do financial harm to any major corporation or government.

Mile per gallon per gallon? MPG^2? So, if you make 100mpgg, and you fill a tank to 15 gallons, you make 1500mpg. Awesome. I want a really big tank then. Like a shark tank. I'll beat those goofy assed mopeds with their alternator sized tanks with my tank with shark tank sized tanks. As an added bonus, I can defend myself against any major corporation or government with enough of these tanks, provided I can access enough ammo to supply those tanks. Tank^2 baby. Tank^2.

Truth about "Shark Tank"

All the "offers/deals" on shark tank are negotiated and completed before the show is taped and goes live. The investors already know which investee "shark", if any are going to help them and at what amount. When the show airs, your watching dramatics and acting to make it interesting to the general public with lights, music and camera effects to add to the effect.

The investors have to go though a series of auditions and screenings so that the producers of the show can pick out the ones they feel will make the best drama.

It should be noted even if someone says they can make a car get 100mpg on single gallon of gas and can prove it, they will never make it on the air as abc and sony does not want any inventor that may do financial harm to any major corporation or government.

I don't think you understand it. you can get 100 mpg on a single gallon of gas if the hill is long enough, probably 100 miles worth. although the 2nd gallon may only get you 10 mpg. how is mpg on a single gallon of gas equivalent to mpgpg?

Damn 600k for 30% and an entrance into Cuban's venues?

I looked on his website and he's extremely anti-Shark Tank people.

Used to love this show. Stopped it cold turkey when they started pimping t-mobile in each episode. I was embarrassed in behalf of the people doing it and can't stomach such in-your-face marketing.

Haven't confirmed the producer/owner thing, but it sounds believeable. They usually do look-backs at businesses that have been on the show, and the "free" advertising works.

Mark Cuban was on the Howard Stern show this week promoting this show. He's a pretty interesting dude and the interview was fantastic. Howard hit another home run with that interview.
